La Boeing ha celebrato la consegna del 100° bireattore B.717 con una cerimonia svoltasi presso gli ex stabilimenti McDonnell Douglas di Long Beach, in California, dove avviene il montaggio finale dell'aereo.
Il centesimo esemplare di produzione č andato al cliente di lancio AirTran Airways, che adesso dispone di 37 B.717, destinati a salire a 50 entro l'anno. "Usiamo il B.717 per collegare 38 cittā degli Stati Uniti, risparmiando il 24% di carburante rispetto ai nostri DC-9," ha dichiarato Joe Leonard, presidente e direttore generale di AirTran.
Oltre all'AirTran, altri clienti presenti al'evento erano Bavaria International Leasing, Hawaiian Airlines, Midwest Express Airlines e QantasLink. Hanno festeggiato il raggiungimento della milestone anche alcuni fornitori e partner del programma B.717 come Alenia, Honeywell e Rolls-Royce.
Midwest Express, l'ultima compagnia in ordine di tempo ad aver ordinato il B.717, ha siglato un contratto che comprende 25 ordini fermi e 25 opzioni e riceverā il primo esemplare nel febbraio del prossimo anno. Il Boeing B.717, attualmente in linea con sette operatori in quattro continenti, detiene un totale di 162 ordini e 112 impegni d'acquisto.

The Boeing Company delivered its 100th B.717 jetliner during a special ceremony today at the company's final assembly facility at Long Beach, Calif.
The 100th production airplane went to launch customer AirTran Airways, bringing the carrier's B.717 fleet to 37 airplanes, with 13 additional deliveries scheduled this year. "The B.717 provides daily departures to 38 destinations in the United States and is 24 percent more fuel efficient than its DC-9s," said Joe Leonard, chairman and chief executive officer of AirTran.
In addition to AirTran, other customers present at the event included Bavaria International Leasing, Hawaiian Airlines, Midwest Express Airlines and QantasLink. A number of B.717 supplier-partners also were on hand to celebrate the program milestone. Among them were Alenia, Honeywell and Rolls-Royce.
Midwest Express, the newest B.717 customer, takes delivery of its first airplane in February 2003. It has ordered 25 airplanes with 25 options. The Boeing B.717, operated on four continents by seven airlines, holds a total of 162 orders and 112 other customer commitments.
