A Tolosa, sede della Airbus, Cathay Pacific Airways ha festeggiato la consegna di un Airbus A 330-300, che è diventato il 100° aereo della propria flotta. Per l’occasione, il velivolo è stato dipinto con una livrea speciale e battezzato “Progress Hong Kong”. Altri cinque bireattori A 330-300 entreranno in linea con la Cathay Pacific tra il 2007 ed il 2008.
Cathay Pacific, fondata ad Hong Kong nel 1946, è già uno dei maggiori utilizzatori di aerei di linea europei nella regione Asia-Pacifico, con 26 A 330-300, 15 A 340-300 e tre A 340-600 attualmente in servizio. Gli A 330-300 sono impiegati su rotte a medio raggio e su quelle più lunghe verso l’Australia. Gli A 340-300 e gli A 340-600 coprono i collegamenti a lunghissimo raggio da Hong Kong verso gli scali europei ed il Nord America. Dal luglio 2004, gli A 340-600 effettuano anche il volo giornaliero non stop Hong Kong-New York.
Il Chief Executive Officer della Cathay Pacific, Philip Chen, ha dichiarato: “Non solo i nostri nuovi aerei coronano 60 anni di grandi risultati, ma ci proiettano verso traguardi sempre più prestigiosi. Negli ultimi dieci anni abbiamo raddoppiato il numero degli aerei ed entro il 2010 avremo in linea più di 130 aeromobili. La recente acquisizione della Dragonair sottolinea il nostro costante impegno per lo sviluppo di Hong Kong.”

Cathay Pacific Airways celebrated the 100th aircraft to join its fleet by taking delivery of an Airbus A 330-300 at a ceremony at the manufacturer’s base in Toulouse, France. The aircraft was presented in special livery to mark the achievement and named “Progress Hong Kong”. A further five A 330-300s are scheduled to join the Cathay Pacific fleet in 2007 and 2008.
Hong Kong based Cathay Pacific, established in 1946, already operates one of the largest Airbus fleets in the Asia-Pacific region, with 26 A 330-300s, 15 A 340-300s and three A 340-600s currently in service. The A 330-300 fleet operate on medium range regional routes, as well as longer sectors to Australia. The A 340-300s and A 340-600s operate ultra long-haul non-stop routes between Hong Kong, Europe and North America. The A 340-600s have been operating daily non-stop services between Hong Kong and New York since July 2004.
Cathay Pacific Chief Executive Officer, Philip Chen said: “Our latest aircraft not only caps 60 years of great achievements, but also heralds a new era of expansion for the airline. In the past 10 years we have doubled our fleet size and by 2010 we will operate more than 130 aircraft. Our recent acquisition of Dragonair underlines our commitment to the future of Hong Kong.”
