I cacciabombardieri EF 2000 dell’Aeronautica Militare hanno superato le 10.000 ore volo. In Italia, il moderno velivolo da combattimento è attualmente in servizio con il 4° Stormo di Grosseto, il 36° Stormo di Gioia del Colle e con il Reparto Sperimentale Volo di Pratica di Mare. L'aereo è quotidianamente impegnato, da oltre tre anni, in missioni di controllo dello spazio aereo nazionale. Successivamente, anche gli EF 2000 delle altre quattro aeronautiche che lo utilizzano (Germania, Regno Unito, Spagna ed Austria) hanno raggiunto il traguardo della piena operatività.
La flotta di Typhoon in servizio in Italia, Germania, Regno Unito, Spagna ed Austria ha oramai superato le 50.000 ore di volo totali. Entro la fine dell’anno saranno consegnati anche i primi Eurofighter della Royal Saudi Air Force, primo cliente extraeuropeo.
Con i Typhoon destinati alle quattro nazioni partner del programma (Germania, Italia, Regno Unito e Spagna), più i 15 ordinati dall’Austria ed i 72 dall’Arabia Saudita, il programma Eurofighter si può oggi considerare quello di maggior successo nel settore dei velivoli da difesa in produzione.
Prosegue l’aggiornamento dei velivoli della Tranche 1 (primo lotto produttivo di 148 aerei, di cui 28 per l’Italia, tutti consegnati) allo standard finale di sviluppo basico. Sono anche entrati in servizio i primi velivoli Tranche 2 (secondo lotto produttivo, 46 esemplari per l’AMI) e l’Aeronautica Militare si sta distinguendo per essere la forza aerea che, ad oggi, ha accumulato più ore volo sulle macchine Tranche 2.
Il programma Eurofighter è fondamentale per l’industria aeronautica europea. Il comparto aerospaziale italiano, in particolare, vi partecipa con una quota pari al 19%, dando lavoro, a lungo termine, a 24.000 addetti qualificati in quasi 200 aziende. Il Gruppo Finmeccanica, con il 36% circa della partecipazione industriale, svolge un ruolo importante nella definizione, progettazione, sviluppo, produzione, addestramento e supporto logistico dell’Eurofighter.

Recently, the EF 2000 aircraft of the Italian Air Force totalled 10,000 flight hours. The European new-generation defence aircraft is now in service with three units of the IAF: 4th Stormo at Grosseto air base, 36th Stormo at Gioia del Colle and the Experimental Flight Test Unit at Pratica di Mare. They started quick-reaction alerts for the airspace control at the beginning of 2006. Since then, the EF 2000's of the other four air forces (Germany, United Kingdom, Spain and Austria) reached the same level of operational capability.
The Typhoon fleet in service in Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, Spain and Austria has by now surpassed the total of 50,000 flight hours. By the year end, the first Eurofighters will be delivered to the Royal Saudi Air Force, the first non-European customer.
With the total sales to the four programme partner nations (Germany, Italy, United Kingdom and Spain), plus 15 aircraft ordered by Austria and 72 by Saudi Arabia, the Eurofighter programme may well be considered the best performing in the field of defence aircraft already in production.
The first production-batch aircraft (148, of which 28 for Italy, all delivered) are undergoing updating in accordance with the final standard of the basic development. The first standard aircraft of the second production batch (46 planned for Italy) have entered into service. The Italian Air Force has accumulated more flight hours, with their Tranche 2, than the other air forces.
The Eurofighter programme is pivotal for the European aviation industry. In particular, the Italian aerospace sector has a 19% share of the programme, which generates 24,000 long-term qualified jobs within some 200 companies. The Finmeccanica companies plays an important role - 36% of the industrial participation - in the definition, design, development, production, training and logistic support of the Eurofighter.
