Nel gennaio 2011, i cacciabombardieri Eurofighter EF 2000 - entrati in servizio dalla seconda metà del 2003 - hanno totalizzato le prime 100.000 ore di volo.
Questo importante traguardo è stato celebrato oggi, nel corso di un evento presso la sede di Eurofighter a Monaco (Germania) che ha visto la partecipazione di rappresentanti del programma Eurofighter, di NETMA - l’agenzia NATO che si occupa della gestione del programma per conto delle forze aeree dei quattro paesi partner (Italia, Germania, Spagna e Regno Unito) - ed alti ufficiali delle forze aeree di Austria ed Arabia Saudita, paesi che hanno adottato il velivolo europeo.
Gli Eurofighter hanno volato per 100.000 ore negli ambienti e nei climi piu’ diversi: dal freddo pungente del Mar Baltico, al mite clima della costa tirrenica, fino al caldo torrido della penisola Arabica e sul mare tempestoso del Sud Atlantico. In tutti questi scenari operativi, l’EF 2000 ha dimostrato affidabilità e prontezza operativa sia nelle operazioni presso le basi permanenti che quando é stato rischierato su altre basi per missioni operative o per esercitazioni.
Gli Eurofighter Typhoon avevano superato le prime 5.000 ore di volo a novembre 2005, le prime 10.000 ad agosto 2006; 20.000 a maggio 2007 e 50.000 ore ad agosto 2008. Questa progressiva crescita dell’attività di volo é aumentata di pari passo con il ritmo costante di consegne ai clienti. Ad oggi sono oltre 260 i velivoli in servizio in sei forze aeree, il più alto numero fra i caccia di nuova generazione oggi disponibili al mondo.
Gli Eurofighter sono in servizio in sei reparti con la Royal Air Force (quattro a Coningsby, uno a Leuchars e uno a Mount Pleasant, nelle Isole Falkland), quattro in Italia (due a Grosseto e due a Gioia del Colle), tre in Germania (nelle basi di Laage, Neuburg e Nörvenich) ed uno ciascuno in Spagna, Austria ed Arabia Saudita, per un totale di 16 reparti che hanno contribuito a raggiungere il traguardo delle 100.000 ore di volo.
Tutti i 148 Eurofighter della “Tranche 1” sono stati consegnati, è in corso la produzione degli esemplari della “Tranche 2” ed il programma di retrofit per portare tutti gli aeroplani all’ultima configurazione. L’EF 2000 si sta dimostrando la spina dorsale delle forze aeree che lo utilizzano, sia nel ruolo di superiorità aerea che nell’appoggio alle operazioni terrestri.

In January 2011, the operational fleet of Eurofighter EF 2000 in service since the second half of 2003 achieved the impressive milestone of 100,000 flight hours.
This total was celebrated today during an event held at Eurofighter headquarters in Munich, Germany. At the celebratory event were senior representatives from the Eurofighter programme, Eurofighter management agency NETMA alongside senior staff from all six customer nations including those from the export customers Austria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The 100,000 hours were achieved flying the EF 2000 in the bitter cold weather of the Baltic Sea, in the temperate climate of the Tyrrenian Coast, in the torrid heat of the Arabic Peninsula and over the rough South Atlantic Sea. A range of operational scenarios have tested the fighter-bomber to its limits and is testament to the reliability, operational readiness and the durability of the platform and systems under any operational conditions.
With the first 5,000 flight hours achieved by November 2005, 10,000 hours came in August 2006, 20,000 in May 2007 and by August 2008 the Eurofighter had surpassed 50,000 hours. This increase in activity matches the steady delivery of aircraft to the customers. The operational fleets have more than 260 aircraft in service - the largest number among the new generation fighters available in the world today.
These fleets are spread across a wide range of squadrons and deployments; six from the UK (four at Coningsby air base, one at Leuchars and one at Mount Pleasant, Falkland Islands); four in Italy (two ay Grosseto and two at Gioia del Colle); three in Germany (Laage, Neuburg and Nörvenich), as well as one each in Spain, Austria and in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, all contributing to the 100,000 flight hour total.
With Tranche 2 production in full swing, all 148 Tranche 1 aircraft delivered and the retrofit programme bringing them all to their latest block configuration, the Typhoon is establishing its footprint within the partner and export Customer air forces as the backbone of the operations both in terms of air dominance and ground support roles.
