La Cessna Aircraft Company ha consegnato ieri il 500° Citation nelle verisoni XL ed XLS all’European Flight Service AB (EFS), il maggiore operatore executive svedese. Da quando, nel 1989, venne consegnato il primo Citation XL, questo modello - con l’evoluzione XLS – è stato il più venduto in assoluto nel mercato dei business jet.
"EFS è stato il primo operatore europeo, nel 2003, a mettere in servizio un XL," ha detto Roger Whyte, Recponsabile Vendite della Cessna. "In parecchi hanno seguito l’esempio. Nel 2005, dalla sola Europa, abbiamo ricevuto ordini per 36 esemplari di XLS." La flotta dell’EFS comprende un Citation XL, un Citation VII ed un Citation Sovereign, con un altro XLS ed un altro Sovereign in arrivo.
"Il nostro XL è un vero cavallo da tiro per la nostra attività a corto raggio," ha dichiarato Stephen W.S. Diapere, proprietario, direttore, responsabile operativo e capo pilota dell’EFS. " Esso vola mediamente 550 ore all’anno. Durante il prossimo ottobre, tutti i Citation XL ed XLS in attività raggiungeranno il traguardo di un milione di ore di volo. Il Cessna Model 560XL Citation Excel (attuale sigla commerciale Citation XL) ricevette la certificazione del tipo dalla Federal Aviation Administration nell’aprile 1998. Nel 2003 iniziò la commercializzazione della versione migliorata XLS. Complessivamente, tra i biz-let del segmento mid-size, l’XL e l’XLS sono i modelli che hanno avuto la migliore accoglienza di mercato. In particolare, il Citation XLS vola a 500 miglia all’ora, ha un raggio superiore alle 1.800 miglia nautiche, sale a 45.000 piedi in 29 minuti e può atterrare su piste di poco superiori al chilometro.

Cessna Aircraft Company yesterday delivered the 500th Citation XL/XLS model to European Flight Service AB (EFS), the largest business-jet charter operator in Sweden. Since the first Citation XL was delivered in 1998, more Citation XL and XLS aircraft have been delivered than any other corporate business jet in the world.
"EFS was the first commercial company in Europe to put an XL into service in 2003," said Cessna Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Roger Whyte. "There have been many others that have followed suit. We took orders for 36 XLS aircraft in Europe for 2005 alone." The fleet of EFS includes a Citation XL, a Citation VII and a Citation Sovereign. They have an additional XLS and Sovereign aircraft on order.
"The XL we have is a workhorse for our short-range charter operations," said EFS Owner, Managing Director, Flight Operations Director, and Chief Pilot Stephen W.S. Diapere. "It flies an average of 550 hours per year. Our customers like the standup cabin, and our company likes the purchase price, operating cost, ease of maintenance and field service support."
The XL/XLS worldwide fleet will near 1 million operating hours in October. The Cessna Model 560XL Citation Excel (commercial name Citation XL) was granted Federal Aviation Administration type certification in April 1998. The XL received an upgrade in 2003 and became the XLS. Together, the XL and XLS have been the best-selling mid-size jets in history. The Citation XLS travels as fast as 500 miles per hour, has a range of more than 1,800 nautical miles, climbs direct to 45,000 feet in 29 minutes, and can land on runways as short as 3,560 feet.
