Embraer ha raggiunto oggi un traguardo molto significativo. Con una cerimonia tenutasi presso la sede della sociatà a São José dos Campos, la Swiss ha ricevuto il 600° aereo di linea regionale a reazione costruito dalla ditta brasiliana. Identificato dalle marche HB-JAY, il velivolo è il 25° ERJ-145 ad entrare in linea con il vettore elvetico, che detiene ancora opzioni per 15 esemplari.
"Sono passati poco più di 5 anni e mezzo dalla consegna del primo ERJ-145, nel dicembre 1996. In questo periodo siamo stati in grado di costruire, supportare e migliorare seicento aerei, facendone una apprezzata linea di prodotto sul mercato degli aerei regionali", ha affermato Maurício Botelho, Presidente di Embraer.
Durante la cerimonia il responsabile flotta della Swiss, Thomas Inboden, ha affermato che un'altra tappa importante nella collaborazione tra Embraer e Swiss sarà raggiunta nella primavera del 2003, quando dovrebbero iniziare le consegne dei primi EMBRAER 170.
Nel giugno del 1999, l'allora operatore regionale elvetico Crossair, oggi divenuto il vettore nazionale Swiss, annunciò un mega contratto da 4,9 miliardi di dollari con l'Embraer, riguardante ordini ed opzioni per ben duecento aeroplani: 40 ERJ-145 da 50 posti ed altri 160 suddivisi tra ERJ-170 da 70 posti ed ERJ-195 da 108. Con quest'ordinativo, Crossair diventava cliente di lancio per gli ERJ-170/195, la più recente linea di aerei commerciali a reazione dell'Embraer.

Embraer registered today another milestone. During a special ceremony held at the company's headquarters in São José dos Campos, Swiss took delivery of the 600th regional jetliner manufactured by the Brazilian company. Registered HB-JAY, the aircraft is the 25th.ERJ-145 delivered to the Swiss carrier, which still holds another 15 options of the type.
"A little more than 5 ½ years took place since the delivery of the first ERJ-145, in December 1996. Within this time period, we have been able to produce, support and constantly improve 600 aircraft of a product line today recognized of real value and highly praised in the Regional Aviation Market.", stated Embraer President Maurício Botelho.
During the ceremony Swiss Vice-President Aircraft Asset Management Thomas Inboden said:"A further important phase in the successful collaboration between Embraer and Swiss will occur in Spring 2003 when deliveries of the first EMBRAER 170s should take place".
In June of 1999, former regional airline operator Crossair, the company that originated today's Swiss, announced a US$ 4.9 billion contract with Embraer by placing firm orders and options for a total of 200 aircraft, of which 40 were for the 50-seat ERJ-145 and 160 split between the 70-seat EMBRAER 170 and 108-seat EMBRAER 195. The contract made Crossair the launch customer for Embraer's newest family of commercial jets, composed of airliners in the 70-to-108 seat range.
