La sezione anteriore del primo B.747-400ER (extended range) in versione Freighter è stata installata sullo scalo di assemblaggio nello stabilimento Boeing di Everett, stato di Washington, per essere unita alle altre due parti principali della fusoliera.
"Dopo la giunzione dell'intera cellula, il nuovo aereo sarà finalmente intero. Era arrivato in tre grandi pezzi e se ne andrà come un altro bell'aeroplano," ha dichiarato Kurt Kraft, program manager B.747-400ER. "L'aereo, il 1.315° B.747 costruito, uscirà dall'officina a settembre e, dopo i voli di prova e di certificazione del tipo, sarà consegnato ad ottobre al cliente di lancio International Lease Finance Corporation, per essere poi subito noleggiato alla Air France."
Il B.747, nelle sue varie versioni cargo, forma la spina dorsale del sistema mondiale del trasporto merci per via aerea e, da solo, ne movimenta quasi la metà. Il primo B.747-400ER passeggeri sta intanto proseguendo nel programma di prove in volo che precede la consegna, prevista per ottobre, al cliente di lancio Qantas Airways.

The forward section of the first Boeing B.747-400ER (extended range) Freighter has been loaded into an assembly tool in the Everett, Wash., factory-where it will be joined with the airplane's two other major fuselage sections.
"After the final body join, the new airplane will be in one piece for the first time. It arrived in three huge sections and it will leave as one beautiful airplane," said Kurt Kraft, B.747-400ER program manager. "The airplane, the 1,315th B.747 to be assembled, will roll out in September and, following flight test and certification, deliver to launch customer International Lease Finance Corporation in October. The airplane will be leased to and operated by Air France."
Boeing 747 freighters form the backbone of the world's air cargo system. By themselves, B.747s carry nearly half of all the world's air cargo. The first B.747-400ER passenger airplane is currently being flight-tested and is scheduled to enter service with launch customer Qantas Airways in October.
