Il Boeing 777-300ER, l'ultima versione della famiglia di aerei commerciali B.777, è ora certificato dalle autorità tecniche aeronautiche degli Stati Uniti e dell'Unione Europea e può iniziare la propria attività. La U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) e la European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) hanno formalmente riconosciuto che il B.777-300ER ha superato tutte le prove tecniche e di sicurezza previste dal programma di collaudo in volo.
I tre esemplari del B.777-300ER impiegati nella fase di certificazione hanno effettuato quasi 1.500 voli e 1.000 ore di prove a terra dal 24 febbraio 2003, data del primo volo. I rigorosi ed impegnativi collaudi hanno dimostrato le qualità del velivolo, spesso in ambienti estremi come la gelida città russa di Yakutsk o la torrida Alice Springs, al centro del deserto australiano. Le principali attività di prova si sono incentrate sull'aerodinamica, la stabilità, la manovrabilità e la maneggevolezza, la robustezza stutturale e l'efficienza dei sistemi di bordo.
Il mese prossimo Air France, tramite la International Lease Finance Corp., riceverà il primo B.777-300ER. Finora la Boeing ha ricevuto ordini per 63 esemplari da parte di otto compagnie aeree. Il nuovo bireattore trasporta fino a 365 passeggeri su tratte di 7.705 miglia nautiche (14.270 chilometri). Propulso da turbofan General Electric GE90-115B, i più grandi e potenti motori mai costruiti per l'aviazione commerciale, esso può effettuare lunghissimi voli non-stop come il Parigi-Los Angeles ed il New York-Tokyo.

The Boeing 777-300ER, the newest member of the B.777 commercial airplane family, now is certified by U.S. and European regulators to carry passengers to destinations around the world. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) have formally recognized that the B.777-300ER passed all testing and safety requirements during an eleven-month flight-test program.
Three B.777-300ER flight test airplanes completed nearly 1,500 flights and 1,000 ground-test hours during the program, starting with the first flight on Feb. 24, 2003. The thorough and rigorous test program demonstrated the airplane's capabilities, often in extreme environments such as frigid Yakutsk, Russia and sweltering Alice Springs, Australia. Major test activities included aerodynamics, stability and control, flight controls, structures, and systems.
International Lease Finance Corp. customer Air France will receive the first B.777-300ER next month. Boeing has so far received orders for 63 B.777-300ERs from eight customers. The twin-engine aircraft carries 365 passengers up to 7,705 nautical miles (14,270 kilometers). Powered by General Electric's GE90-115B engine, the largest and most powerful commercial jet engine in the world, it can serve such routes as Paris-Los Angeles and New York-Tokyo.
