Il primo Boeing B.777-200LR Freighter ad entrare nella flotta della Qatar Airway ha concluso il volo di 16 ore dallo stabilimento di Everett, nello stato di Washington, a Doha, capitale del Qatar, ed è già stato messo in servizio. L’aereo, il 23° B.777-200LR Freighter consegnato finora – è stato accettato dalla compagnia aerea mediorientale il 17 maggio scorso.
Nel maggio 2006, la Qatar Airways aveva ordinato tre esemplari del nuovo aereo merci della Boeing, per utilizzarli sulle proprie rotte verso l’Europa e l’Estremo Oriente. Il vettore ha già in linea diciassette B.777 passeggeri.
Il B.777-200LR Freighter è spinto da due turbofan General Electric's GE90-110B1L/115BL e rispetta i limiti di rumore QC2. E’ il bireattore merci con il raggio d’azione maggiore al mondo ed offre il minore costo operativo tra tutti i grandi aerei cargo. Trasporta un carico massimo di 225.200 libbre (102 tonnellate), la massima autonomia è di 4.900 miglia nautiche (9.070 chilometri) e la cabina ha un’altezza di 3,1 metri.
I risultati del B.777-200LR Freighter, dall’entrata in servizio nel febbraio 2009, sono molto lusinghieri. E’ stata registrata una disponibilità operativa (dispatch reliability) pari al 99,1%. Finora sono stati ordinati un totale di 73 B.777-200LR Freighter.

The first Boeing B.777-200LR Freighter to enter Qatar Airways' fleet completed a 16-hour flight from Boeing's Everett, Washington State, Delivery Center to Doha, Qatar, and has been placed into service. The airplane - the 23rd B.777-200LR Freighter delivery overall - was accepted by the airline on May 17.
Qatar Airways ordered three new Boeing cargo aircraft in May 2006, for deployment on Far East and European routes. The airline currently operates seventeen passenger B.777s.
The B.777-200LR Freighter is powered by General Electric's GE90-110B1L/115BL and meets QC2 noise standards. It is the world's longest-range twin-engine freighter and features the lowest trip cost of any large freighter. It features a payload capability of 225,200 pounds (102 metric tons), a range of 4,900 nautical miles (9,070 kilometers) and 10-foot (3.1-meter) interior height capability.
The B.777-200LR Freighter's entry into service has been very successful, with a dispatch reliability of 99.1 percent since entering service in February 2009. Twelve customers have ordered a total of 73 B.777-200LR Freighters.
