AgustaWestland, società Finmeccanica, e la conglomerata indiana Tata Sons hanno firmato un Memorandum d’intesa per la creazione di una joint-venture destinata all’assemblaggio dell’elicottero AW 119 Koala in India. L’accordo è stato firmato da Giuseppe Orsi, CEO AgustaWestland, e da Ratan Tata, Presidente del gruppo omonimo, nel corso del salone Aero India.
La nuova azienda multinazionale sarà responsabile del montaggio finale dell’AW 119, allestimento e consegna a clienti in tutto il mondo, mentre AgustaWestland manterrà la responsabilità della commercializzazione e delle vendite. Il primo Koala indiano potrebbe essere già pronto alla consegna nel 2011, con volumi produttivi espandibili fino a 30 esemplari l’anno, in base alle esigenze di mercato.
Si spera che la nuova joint-venture possa agire da fornitore locale se l’AW 119 riuscirà ad aggiudicarsi il contratto per il prossimo Reconnaissance and Surveillance Helicopter (RSH) delle Forze Aeree Indiane. Inoltre, AgustaWestland e Tata si impegneranno su altre opportunità commerciali per l’intera gamma di elicotteri AgustaWestland, con ulteriori ipotesi di collaborazione industriale.
Tata è un grande gruppo indiano in forte crescita, con numerose ramificazioni internazionali. Il giro d’affari nel 2007-08 si è aggirato sui 62,5 miliardi di dollari, il 61% del quale è stato originato all’estero. Tata occupa 350.000 addetti in tutto il mondo, in sette settori principali: comunicazioni ed informatica, ingegneria, materiali, servizi, energia, supporto clienti e chimica.

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, and Tata Sons of India announced the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the formation of a joint-venture company which will establish a final assembly line for the AW 119 Koala helicopter in India. The agreement was signed at the Aero India air show today by Mr. Giuseppe Orsi, CEO, AgustaWestland and Mr. Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Sons.
The joint-venture company will be responsible for AW 119 final assembly, completion and delivery to customers worldwide while AgustaWestland will retain responsibility for worldwide marketing and sales. The first Indian Koala is scheduled to be delivered from the new facility in 2011, with production forecast to rise to 30 aircraft per year to meet worldwide demand.
It is envisaged that the joint-venture company would be a supplier for the current Reconnaissance and Surveillance Helicopter (RSH) programme of the Indian Armed Forces, for which AgustaWestland has already proposed the AW 119 to be manufactured in India. Additionally, AgustaWestland and Tata companies plan to explore additional commercial opportunities in India for AgustaWestland helicopters and the subsequent industrial co-operation.
Tata is a rapidly growing business group based in India with significant international operations. Revenues in 2007-08 are estimated at $62.5 billion, of which 61 per cent is from business outside India. The group employs around 350,000 people worldwide. The business operations of the Tata group currently encompass seven business sectors: communications and information technology, engineering, materials, services, energy, consumer products and chemicals.
