Air France ha siglato un ordine di acquisto per tre Airbus A 318, bireattori a corridoio singolo, configurati da 123 posti classe unica, e spinti da motori CFM International CFM56 e. Questi aerei, che saranno consegnati a partire dal 2006, opereranno sulle rotte a medio raggio in Francia ed in Europa.
Nell’aprile 1999 Air France è stata la prima compagnia aerea a scegliere l’A 318, ordinando 15 esemplari del più piccolo esponente della famiglia Airbus. Con questo ulteriore ordine, la compagnia aerea francese completerà il piano di modernizzazione e razionalizzazione della propria flotta (Ndr: almeno per il corto/medio raggio). Air France è stata la prima compagnia aerea al mondo ad operare con tutti e quattro i tipi di Airbus a corridoio singolo. Il vettore nazionale francese vanta già una flotta di quasi 170 aerei Airbus, 133 dei quali appartenenti alla famiglia A 320.
“Utilizziamo da diversi anni e con successo gli A 318. Questi aerei a corridoio singolo hanno pienamente dimostrato la loro efficienza a livello commerciale ed operativo sul nostro network di rotte a medio raggio”, ha dichiarato Jean-Cyril Spinetta, CEO di Air France.
Con più 3.600 ordini e oltre 2.500 aeromobili già consegnati ad oggi, la famiglia A 320 è senza dubbio quella che ha registrato il più grande successo nella storia, conquistando la fiducia di 160 clienti.

Air France has placed a firm order for three A Airbus 318 single-aisle aircraft. Powered by CFM International CFM56 engines, the Air France A 318s will seat up to 123 passengers in a single-class layout. Deliveries of these aircraft, which will be operated to medium-haul destinations in metropolitan France and Europe, will begin in 2006.
Air France was the A 318 launch airline in April 1999 when it placed an order for 15 of the smallest airliner of the Airbus family. With this additional order, the French carrier is completing its fleet modernisation and rationalisation programme (Editor’s note: not jet for the long-range fleet). Air France, was the first airline in the world to operate the four types of aircraft in the single-aisle family, and already has a fleet of almost 170 Airbus aircraft, including 133 of the A 320 family.
"We have been successfully operating the A 318s for several years now. These single-aisle airliners have fully demonstrated their commercial and operational capability in our medium-haul network", said Jean-Cyril Spinetta, CEO of Air France.
With more than 3,600 Airbus single-aisle aircraft ordered and more than 2,500 delivered today, the A 320 family is without doubt the airliner programme which has notched up the greatest success ever. The A 320 family has more than 160 customers and operators to its credit.
