LAN Airlines, compagnia aerea di base a Santiago del Cile, ha firmato un contratto per l’acquisto per 25 aerei della famiglia Airbus A 320 più 15 esemplari in opzione. Questa commessa, già preannunciata nel giugno scorso, porta a 59 il numero di Airbus in arrivo alla LAN. Le consegne dei nuovi aerei inizieranno nel 2006 e permetteranno alla compagnia cilena di completare progressivamente la radiazione dei B.737-200, sostituiti da altrettanti A 318 ed A 319.
Grazie a questo contratto, la LAN diventa anche il primo cliente per la versione dell’A 318 dotata di motori Pratt & Whitney’s PW6000. Questo nuovo tipo di turbofan civile sarà certificato entro la fine del 2005 (Ndr: con oltre due anni di ritardo). Gli A 319 ed A 320 che fanno parte del nuovo ordine saranno invece spinti da turbofan IAE (International Aero Engines) V2500-A5. Tutti i velivoli saranno impegati sulle rotte interne della LAN in Cile, Perù ed Argentina.

LAN Airlines with headquarters in Santiago (Chile) has signed a contract with Airbus for the acquisition of 25 A 320 Family aircraft plus 15 options. This order confirms LAN’s previous announcement of June 2005 and brings their total order backlog for Airbus aircraft to 59. Deliveries of the newly ordered aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2006. A part of the additional new A 318s and A 319s will gradually replace LAN’s B.737-200 fleet.
With this contract LAN becomes the first customer for the A 318 powered by the new Pratt & Whitney’s PW6000 engine. The PW 6000 engine is due for certification by the end of this year. The additional A 319s and A 320s will be powered by the V2500-A5 engine from International Aero Engines. These new aircraft will be put into service on LAN’s domestic network in Chile, Peru and Argentina.
