Qantas ha ricevuto il suo primo aereo di linea Airbus, un A 330-200, diventando così anche un nuovo operatore della diffusa famiglia di aerei a fusoliera larga A 330/A 340. Qantas ha posto un ordine per un totale di 13 A 330, sette versione 200 e sei 300, tutti motorizzati con General Electric CF6-80E1. I bimotori A 330-200 saranno introdotti sulle rotte interne CityFlyer con cabina da 38 passeggeri in classe business e 265 in economica.

Qantas has taken delivery of its first Airbus aircraft ever, an A 330-200, thus becoming a new operator of the widely used A 330/A 340 Family. Qantas has ordered a mix of seven A 330-200s and six -300s, all of them powered by General Electric CF6-80E1s. The twin-engined A 330-200s being deployed on CityFlyer domestic routes seat 38 passengers in business class and 265 in economy.
''Qantas is perhaps the ultimate long-haul airline, flying some of the world's longest routes, and it enjoys a well-deserved reputation for technical excellence, reliability and sound business sense, so we are naturally delighted at being part of its future,'' comments John Leahy, Airbus Executive Vice President Customer Affairs. ''Qantas was also the first airline to sign a contract for the four-engined A 380 megabody, which it will fly on the 'Kangaroo route' between London and Australia, as well as on services across the Pacific.''
