L’Air Europa è la prima compagnia aerea ad aver scelto l’A 350-800, il nuovo aereo Airbus da 245 posti lanciato sul mercato appena undici giorni fa. Il vettore spagnolo ha infatti firmato una lettera d’impegno per 10 esemplari più 2 opzioni. Questa decisione è stata il frutto di un’accurata valutazione delle prestazioni e dei costi operativi del nuovo aereo, che sarà consegnato tra il 2010 ed il 2012. Air Europa ha scelto i motori GEnx della General Electirc; la configurazione della cabina sarà tra i 300 ed i 330 posti. Nell’ambito di un programma di rinnovo ed espansione della propria flotta, essa ha anche firmato un contratto per ricevere un A 340-200 a noleggio nel 2005, seguito poi da due esemplari nuovi di A 330-200 nella primavera del 2006.
“Questo impegno rappresenta la chiave di volta per un completo rinnovo della flotta wide-body (B.767) dell’Air Europa, rendendola una delle più moderne a livello europeo e ideale per proseguire nei nostri piani di sviluppo,” ha dichiarato Juan Jose Hidalgo, Presidente Esecutivo del Gruppo Globalia, capofila di Air Europa.
Noël Forgeard, Presidente e Chief Executive Officer Airbus, ha espresso la soddisfazione della ditta per questo traguardo. “Pochi giorni dopo la decisione dei nostri azionisti di offrire questo aereo sul mercato, Airbus è già nella posizione di annunciare il primo cliente per l’A 350. Siamo sicuri che presto si aggiungeranno altre compagnie aeree, tra quelle che stanno dimostrando vivo interesse per l’ultimo nato in casa Airbus.”

Air Europa of Spain is the first airline to commit to the A 350-800, Airbus’ new 245-seater aircraft only on offer since 10th December, after signing a Memorandum of Understanding for 10 aircraft and 2 further options. This decision comes after a rigorous evaluation of the aircraft’s performance and efficiency with the aircraft due to be delivered between 2010 and 2012. Air Europa has selected General Electric GEnx engines for the aircraft and will use a configuration of 300 to 330 seats. As part of Air Europa’s plans to renew and expand its current fleet, it has signed a contract to receive one A 340-200 leased from Airbus in 2005 and intends to lease two new A 330-200s in the spring of 2006.
“This commitment will without doubt be a key element in the complete renewal of the Air Europa (B.767) wide-body fleet, making it one of the most modern fleet on the continent and allowing our company to continue with its growth strategy,” stated Juan Jose Hidalgo, Executive President of the Globalia Group and parent company of Air Europa.
Noël Forgeard, Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer, expressed the company’s pleasure at this announcement. “Only days after the approval from our shareholders to offer this aircraft on the market, Airbus is already in the position to announce its first customer for the A 350. We are sure it will be followed soon by more airlines showing their interest in this latest Airbus product.”
