Qatar Airways ha deciso di comperare 60 Airbus A 350, diventandone per ora il maggiore acquierente ed il primo in assoluto nell’area mediorientale. L’accordo verte su una combinazione di A 350-800 e di A 350-900 più capienti. Le consegne degli Airbus A 350-800 alla Qatar Airways inizieranno poco oltre la metà del 2010, mentre quelle degli A 350-900 partiranno diversi mesi dopo.
Qatar Airways, uno dei vettori di maggior prestigio al mondo, dispone attualmente della maggiore flotta tutto-Airbus nel Medio Oriente, con A 320, A 300, A 310, A 330 ed A 340. E’ anche una delle prime compagnie aeree ad aver ordinato il mega-body A 380.
Qatar Airways userà gli A 350-800 e 900 come affiancamento agli A 330 ed A 340, rispettivamente, sulle rotte a lungo e lunghissimo raggio. I collegamenti senza scalo previsti per l’A 350-800, dalla base della Qatar Airways a Doha, raggiungeranno New York e Melbourne, quelli per l’A 350-900 saranno diretti a Johannesburg, Manila e Tokyo.
Con il 60% in più di nuovi materiali costruttivi superleggeri, come le fibre di carbonio per i rivestimenti delle ali e l’alluminio-litio per parti della fusoliera, l’Airbus A 350 avrà un rapporto peso/posti molto favorevole dal punto di vista dell’economia di gestione. Questa caratteristica, unita alla manutenzione centralizzata e intervalli più lunghi tra un ispezione e l’altra, contribuiranno a ridurre notevolmente i costi manutentivi dell’Airbus A 350.

Qatar Airways has decided to acquire 60 Airbus A 350s, becoming the largest customer to date for the new airliner and the first client in the Middle East. The deal is for a mix of A 350-800s and larger A 350-900s. Deliveries of Qatar Airways’ Airbus A 350-800s are due to begin in the third quarter of 2010, with those of it’s A 350-900s starting several months later.
Qatar Airways is the largest all-Airbus operator in the Middle East and one of the world’s leading airlines, with a fleet that comprises aircraft from the A 320, A 300/A 310 and A 330/A 340 families. It is also an early customer for the A 380 mega-body.
Qatar Airways will use the A 350-800s and -900s to complement it’s A 330s and A 340s on regional and long-haul routes, respectively. Envisaged non-stop routes from Qatar Airways’ Doha base include New York and Melbourne for the A 350-800s, and Johannesburg, Manilla and Tokyo for it’s A 350-900s.
With up to 60 per cent of weight-saving new advanced materials, in the form of carbonfibre wings and an aluminium-lithium fuselage, the Airbus A 350 will be lighter per seat - and hence more economical. This design, together with centralised maintenance and extended check intervals, will also help to give the Airbus A 350 attractive maintenance costs.
