UPS Airlines è antrata a far parte del sempre più numeroso gruppo di vettori che hanno scelto l’Airbus A 380. In particolare, la società basata ad Atlanta, in Georgia, si è accordata per l’acquisto di dieci A 380 in versione merci, con opzione per altri dieci esemplari. UPS Airlines, che non ha ancora scelto il tipo di motore da utilizzare, metterà in linea il suo primo A 380F nel 2009.
Divisione volante della United Parcel Service Company, UPS Airlines è il terzo acquierente americano dell’A 380. Calcolando la vendita all’UPS, gli ordini e gli impegni per l’A 380 ammontano ora a 149 esemplari per 14 compagnie aeree. Gli A 380F dell’UPS trasporteranno un carico massimo di 150 tonnellate su tre ponti, con un volume utile di 1.130 metri cubi, su tratte fino a 5.600 miglia nautiche (10.400 chilometri).

UPS Airlines has joined the growing list of worldwide carriers to select the Airbus A 380. Specifically, the Atlanta, Georgia-based company has agreed to purchase 10 freighter versions of the A 380, with options for an additional 10. UPS Airlines will take delivery of its first A 380F in 2009. The carrier has not yet announced its engine selection for the aircraft.
A division of United Parcel Service Company, UPS Airlines is the third U.S.-based customer for the A 380. Including the UPS deal, there are 149 orders and commitments for A 380s from 14 customers. The UPS A 380F will carry a freight load of 150 tonnes / 330,000 pounds on three decks, with a cargo volume capacity of 1,130 cubic metres / 40,000 cubic feet, a distance of some 10,400km / 5,600 nm.
(Editor’s Note: In a related decision, UPS and Airbus have agreed to amend the previous order for Airbus A 300 Freighter aircraft. UPS Airlines is reducing its order for 90 planes to 53. To date, 40 A 300s have been delivered and the remaining 13 will be delivered by July 2006.)
