Storico evento per la Royal Air Maroc che ieri ha ricevuto il suo primo aereo di linea Airbus, un bireattore A 321. Il vettore africano si aggiunge così alla 200 compagnie aeree che hanno già acquistato velivoli prodotti dal costruttore europeo. L’aereo è il primo dei quattro A 321 che erano stati ordinati dal vettore di bandiera marocchino nel giugno 2001. Il secondo esemplare sarà consegnato alla RAM tra qualche settimana. Tutti questi aerei sono equipaggiati con motori CFM56-5B prodotti dalla joint-venture CFM International.
Royal Air Maroc utilizzerà gli A 321 su rotte a medio raggio ed alta densità come la Casablanca-Parigi. L’A 321, il modello più capiente della famiglia A 320, si sta rivelando la scelta ideale per vettori a forte vocazione turistica. Nella configurazione convertibile richiesta dalla RAM, l’A 321 trasporta 177 passeggeri che salgono a 198 in alta stagione.
Nell’ambito del suo rapporto di collaborazione con i clienti, l’Airbus fornirà per un certo periodo alla RAM il supporto ai velivoli in linea, inviando una rappresentanza tecnica presso la base della compagnia a Casablanca. Nel 2004, non appena il vettore avrà accumulato l’esperienza necessaria sui velivoli della famiglia A 320, la EADS Sogerma e la Royal Air Maroc realizzeranno un centro di manutenzione a Marrakech. Questa struttura potrà essere utilizzata anche per attività in conto terzi, generando ulteriori entrate per la compagnia aerea.

Royal Air Maroc entered a new era yesterday with the delivery of its first Airbus aircraft in Hamburg, an A 321, thus joining the European manufacturer’s worldwide customer base of some 200 customers and operators. The aircraft is the first of four single-aisle A 321s firmly ordered by the Moroccan national carrier June 2001. The second item will be delivered to RAM in a few weeks. All aircraft will be powered by CFM56-5B engines from CFM International.
Royal Air Maroc will use the A 321 on its medium haul high density routes such as Casablanca-Paris. The A 321, the largest member of Airbus’ A 320 Family, is the preferred aircraft of airlines with a strong customer base of tourist travellers. In the flexible layout selected by RAM, the A 321 will seat 177 passengers and up to 198 in high season.
As part of its support to customers, Airbus will be providing on line support to RAM with a technical representation at the carrier’s base in Casablanca. A 320 Family expertise will be developed within the airline, which will be furthered in 2004 when EADS Sogerma together with Royal Air Maroc sets up a maintenance centre in Marrakech. This capacity could be extended to third parties generating potential additional revenues for the airline.
