The Autonomous Landing Guidance Program

At Andrews AFB, near Washington, DC, flight testing is in progress on a new system, named Autonomous Landing Guidance, enabling airliners to make landings in poor visibility situations.
The ALG program relies upon technologies developed in the military field, such as the head-up display (HUD), the Millimetre-Wave Radar (MWR) and the dual-band Forward-Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) sensors.
For the proof-of-concept phase, a modified United Airlines Boeing 727-200 is used.
