AMX, a baptism of fire

On 14 April, AMX tactical fighter-bombers of the Italian Air Force out of Istrana Air Base took part in the NATO air operations over Serbia. It has been assumed that this was the first official war experience for the Italian-Brazilian ground-attack aircraft. Three years ago, rumours were arosen about the participation of IAF AMXs to the air operations over Bosnia but this occurrence was never confirmed officially.
AMX, also in service with the Brazilian Air Force, is equipped with 49kN Rolls-Royce RB167-807 engine. Alenia is about to decide whether an AMX demonstrator is to be re-engined with a 60kN non-afterburner variant of Eurojet EJ 200, the engine developed for Eurofighter EF 2000.
