La Corporate Angel Network (CAN) è l'unica organizzazione benefica negli USA che organizza e gestisce i viaggi dei malati di cancro utilizzando posti vuoti sugli aerei d'affari. Con sede a White Plains, nello stato di New York, CAN opera grazie all'impegno di cinquanta volontari e cinque dipendenti. La meritevole organizzazione trae le proprie risorse dal contributo di privati e ditte, comprese alcune tra le "top 100" del mensile Fortune.
Dalla sua creazione nel 1981, CAN ha coordinato più di 19.000 voli. L'attività del CAN si svolge in contatto con pazienti, medici, ditte, uffici coordinamento voli ed istituti ospedalieri, ed organizza fino a 175 voli al mese all'interno degli Stati Uniti. Le persone di cui il CAN si prende cura sono tutti i malati di cancro, donatori di midollo e persone che devono subire il trapianto. I pazienti arrivano vestiti normalmente, sono in grado di salire la scaletta dell'aereo senza aiuto e non hanno bisogno di assistenza medica a bordo. Questi voli non sono organizzati appositamente per il CAN. Si tratta soltanto di utilizzare spazio libero su normali voli d'affari già programmati.
Con uffici e rappresentanti in tutto il mondo, Air Routing International (ARI) e le società collegate forniscono tutta una serie di servizi a supporto delle varie esigenze dell'aviazione corporate. Negli ultimi cinque anni, ARI ha deciso di offrire ai propri clienti e fornitori un esclusivo torneo di golf. Questo evento è ormai diventato il punto di incontro annuale per molti importanti protagonisti della comunità dell'aviazione d'affari negli Stati Uniti, Canada e Messico. Anche quest'anno ARI ha deciso di destinare al CAN i fondi di beneficenza raccolti durante lo svolgimento del torneo.
Uno dei maggiori filantropi del settore è Donald Trump, che ha messo a disposizione il suo Trump National Golf Course per lo svolgimento del torneo 2004. Situato a Westchester (New York), il Trump National è noto per la bellezza del sito, per l'impegnativo percorso e per le strutture di contorno, tutti elementi ideali per una grande raccolta di fondi di beneficienza. Tim Maystrik, Vice Presidente ARI, a dichiarato, "Grazie all'adesione dei nostri sponsor e dei partecipanti, siamo riusciti a raccogliere 5.000 dollari per il Corporate Angel Network. Una somma notevole, che permetterà di aiutare persone che combattono contro il cancro."
Questa iniziativa ha sempre coinvolto altre società che lavorano a stretto contatto con Air Routing International. The Corporate Angel Network (CAN) is the only charitable organization in the USA whose sole mission is to arrange and manage travel for cancer patients through the use of empty seats on corporate aircraft. Based in White Plains, NY, CAN is run by 50 part-time volunteers and five paid staff. The respected organization boasts support from many business and philanthropic individuals - including the top listed firms in the Fortune 100.
Since its founding in 1981, CAN has coordinated more than 19,000 flights. The role of CAN's head office is to work with patients, physicians, corporations, flight departments and leading treatment facilities in arranging approximately 175 flights per month within the continental USA. The people who CAN looks after are all cancer patients, bone marrow donors, and bone marrow recipients. Patients arrive suitably dressed for business travel, are able to climb the steps of the aircraft unassisted and require no medical assistance while onboard. These flights are not specially arranged and dedicated to CAN. What they do represent is utilization of available space on aircraft while in operation and in the course of conducting their normal daily business.
With offices and agents around the world, Air Routing International® (ARI) and its associate companies have been providing one of the most comprehensive and all-inclusive service solutions to support the travel needs of corporate aviation. For the past five years, ARI has taken the time to thank its customers and service providers with a special and unique annual golf tournament. This event attracts key members of the corporate aviation community from all over the USA, Canada and Mexico. Once again ARI chose to focus on CAN as the recipient of monies raised through the staging of the event.
One of corporate aviation's greatest promoters is Donald Trump, which is why he supported the idea of having this year's event at his famed Trump National Golf Course. Located in Westchester New York, Trump National is known for its beauty, challenge to golfing skill and top-notch amenities and was ideal for a day designed to thank clients and raise money for a great cause. According to Tim Maystrik, ARI Vice President, "Through the support of our sponsors and participants, we were able to raise $5,000.00 for CAN. This was a record amount for us and money that we know will help those who really need it in their fight against cancer."
This event has always involved efforts of firms working with ARI on a daily basis.
