Autogyro Day at Turin/Aeritalia Airport

On May 22, 2011, at Turin/Aeritalia airport, Aeromnia organized a small but successful air event to promote the ELA 07 autogyro. Established in 2006, Aeromnia is an Italo-Romanian commercial entreprise which also holds the dealership of the Spanish aurtogyro in Piedmont.
During the sunny Sunday, some 30 flight were performed on behalf of prospective customers. To this aim, two autogyros - Aeromnia's ELA 07 and Aeromobili Lamborghin’si ELA 07S did the lion’s share of the flying. Following an incredible display by ELA Italia’s chief Test Pilot, Mauro Antongiovanni, his turbo ELA 07S went on static display, where it was constantly surrounded by the enthusiastic public, eager to see it at close range. Aeromnia's team members were constantly present to provide technical details and answer questions about this unusual flying machine.
The autogyro (also known as gyroplane, gyrocopter, rotaplane, etc.) is a peculiar type of aircraft whose history goes back to 1923, and is considered as the helicopter’s ancestor as well as the first effective application of the lifting rotor. Today a number of companies are involved in autogyro design and production. Without pretending to tell the whole history, it is worth reading a short description of some significant events regarding the autogyro saga.
