Il governo dell’India ha firmato un contratto d’acquisto per dodici elicotteri AgustaWestland AW 101 che saranno utilizzati per il trasporto di personalità. L’accordo, dal valore di circa 560 milioni di Euro, comprende un completo supporto logistico ai mezzi per cinque anni e l’addestramento iniziale di piloti e tecnici.
Oltre 180 AW 101 sono stati ordinati da vari operatori per svolgere tutta una serie di missioni civili e militari. L’AW 101 ha totalizzato quasi 200.000 ore di volo durante la propria attività in Italia, Gran Bretagna, Danimarca, Portogallo, Giappone e Canada, confermando le sue ottime caratteristiche ed una grande affidabilità.
AgustaWestland ha una significativa e crescente presenza in India, sia nel mercato civile che militare. Di recente sono stati formalizzati stretti rapporti col gruppo Tata Son, col quale è stata formata una Joint-venture che sarà inizialmente incentrata sulla produzone su licenza dell’elicottero leggero AW 119 Koala.
Il costruttore italo-britannico è presente in India dal 197 quando l’Agusta consegnò un primo lotto di Sea King antisom alla Marina Indiana. Nel 2005 l’AgustaWestland ha venduto il primo A 109 Power al governo del Rajasthan e, da allora, altri trenta elicotteri sono stati comperati da clienti indiani, compresi altri Power, nuovi bimotori leggeri Grand, monomotori AW 119 Ke e bimotori medi AW 139.

A contract has been signed by the Government of India for the acquisition of twelve AgustaWestland AW 101 helicopters that will perform government transport duties. The contract, valued at around € 560 million, includes an extensive five year logistic support service and initial aircrew and technician training.
Over 180 AW 101 helicopters have been ordered by customers around the world so far to perform a wide range of government, public service and military missions. The AW 101 has logged nearly 200,000 flight hours in service in Italy, UK, Denmark, Portugal, Japan and Canada whilst delivering exceptional performance and high levels of safety.
AgustaWestland has a significant and growing presence in India, both in the military and commercial markets. Recently, strong industrial relations have been established with Tata Son, with whom a joint-venture has been set up to produce AW 119 Koala light helicopters.
AgustaWestland has been doing business in India for almost 40 years with the delivery, in 1971, of an initial batch of Sea King helicopters to the Indian Navy for anti-submarine warfare. In 2005 AgustaWestland sold its first A 109 Power helicopter to the Government of Rajasthan and, since then, sales include 30 aircraft including additional Powers, the new Grand light twin engine helicopter, the AW 119 Ke single engine and the AW 139 medium twin.
