AgustaWestland ha annunciato una nuova versione del suo elicottero A 109S Grand: si chiama AW 109SP Grand New ed è dotato di un aggiornatissimo pacchetto avionico e di un nuovo glass cockpit. Sarà il primo elicottero bimotore leggero in grado di soddisfare i più recenti requisiti per la navigazione ogni-tempo con strumentazione satellitare.
L’ AW 109SP Grand New ha già ricevuto la certificazione EASA, mentre quella della FAA seguirà a metà 2010. Equipaggiato con EVS (Enhanced Vision Systems) e Terrain Awareness Warning System (TAWS) per volo nottuno, il Grand New è in grado di soddisfare le raccomandazioni NTSB/FAA (enti federali per la sicurezza del volo) che suggeriscono - in caso di necessità e quando le condizioni lo consentano - l'utilizzo di apparecchiature per la visione notturna nelle missioni sanitarie EMS.
Durante l'Heli-Expo 2010, il recordman Scott Kasprowicz ha firmato un contratto d'acquisto per un Grand New. Nel 2008, Scott Kasprowicz e Steve Sheik avevano stabilito il nuovo record mondiale di velocità, con un A 109S Grand, volando intorno al mondo in 11 giorni, 7 ore e 5 minuti, abbassando il limite precedente di quasi sei giorni. Quasi 150 clienti in 80 paesi hanno già ordinato circa 290 elicotteri Grand e Grand New.

AgustaWestland unveiled the AW 109SP Grand New, an evolution of the A 109S Grand helicopter equipped with a state-of-the-art avionics package and a new glass cockpit will be the first light twin helicopter fully compliant with the advanced global navigation satellite system-based requirements for all weather operations.
The AW 109SP Grand New has already received the EASA certification while FAA certification is expected to be achieved in mid 2010. Equipped with EVS (Enhanced Vision Systems) and a Terrain Awareness Warning System (TAWS) for night operations, the Grand New also meets the latest NTSB/FAA recommendations for EMS operations to consider the use of an FAA-approved night vision goggle or enhanced vision system into flight programmes, when conditions and missions dictate.
During Heli-Expo 2010, aviation record breaker Scott Kasprowicz has signed a contract for a Grand New helicopter. Scott Kasprowicz and Steve Sheik set the new world speed record in 2008, with an A 109S Grand helicopter, flew around the world in only 11 days 7 hours and 5 minutes, breaking the old record by almost 6 days. Orders for some 290 Grand and Grand New helicopters have been placed by almost 150 customers in over 30 countries worldwide.
