Boeing Company ed AgustaWestland (Finmeccanica), hanno annunciato oggi la firma di un importante memorandum d’intesa in funzione dell’offerta dell’ultima versione del Chinook all’Esercito Italiano, oltre ad altre evantuali opportunità nel settore elicotteristico. In particolare, l’intesa tra la Rotorcraft Division di Boeing Integrated Defense Systems ed AgustaWestland identifica comuni prospettive di lavoro volte allo sviluppo di elicotteri pesanti da trasporto.
All’inizio l’accordo impegnerà i due costruttori nella preparazione di un’offerta congiunta per la fornitura di CH-47F destinati a rinnovare l’attuale flotta di Chinook dell’Esercito Italiano. Inoltre è stato concordato che, in caso di ulteriori vendite di questi elicotteri in Italia e nel Regno Unito, AgustaWestland agirà in qualità di capocommessa mentre Boeing rivestirà la funzione di fornitore principale.
“Questo memorandum è il proseguimento di un lungo rapporto di collaborazione con AgustaWestland e ci fornisce una piattaforma comune per mettere a disposizione dell’Esercito Italiano i nostri nuovi CH-47F Chinook, come rimpiazzo degli attuali CH-47C,” ha detto Michael Tkach, direttore della Rotorcraft Division della Boeing. “Ci auguriamo di poter lavorare insieme per fornire all’Esercito Italiano il più versatile ed efficiente elicottero da trasporto oggi sul mercato, il CH-47F.”
“Questo accordo con la Boeing segna un altro passo avanti nella lunga e proficua collaborazione tra le due società. Esso ci permetterà anche di rafforzare il nostro ruolo di fornitori di CH-47 alle nostre Forze Armate" ha aggiunto Giuseppe Orsi, CEO di AgustaWestland.
Il CH-47F Chinook è caratterizzato da una struttura rinnovata, comandi di volo migliorati, avionica ed impianto comunicazioni aggiornati, oltre a disporre di nuove soluzioni per la sopravvivenza in ambiente ostile e la trasportabilità. Attualmente l’elicottero è già in produzione e le consegne all’U.S. Army sono iniziate nel dicembre 2006. I Chinook dell’Esercito Italiano sono al momento impegnati in missioni che vanno dal peacekeeping, al soccorso umanitario, agli interventi in caso di disastro ed alla lotta agli incendi, confermando l’enorme versatilità della macchina per un ampio spettro di impieghi.

The Boeing Company and AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint work on the next-generation Chinook for the Italian Army and other future rotorcraft opportunities. Specifically, the MOU between the Rotorcraft Division of Boeing’s Integrated Defense Systems and AgustaWestland, identifies potential opportunities for both companies to work together to offer effective and economic joint solutions for future heavy lift rotorcrafts.
Initially, the MOU teams both manufacturers to jointly market the CH-47F aircraft as the replacement for the current Italian Army Chinook fleet. Additionally, the two companies have agreed that on future opportunities for new helicopter sales in Italy and the U.K., AgustaWestland will serve as the prime contractor and Boeing will serve as the exclusive prime subcontractor.
“This MOU is a continuation of our long standing relationship with AgustaWestland and provides us the architecture to jointly offer the next generation Chinook, the CH-47F, to the Italian Army as a replacement for their current CH-47C model aircraft,” said Michael Tkach, vice president and general manager for Boeing’s Rotorcraft Division. “We look forward to working together in equipping the Italian Army with the world’s most versatile and effective transport helicopter, the CH-47F.”

The CH-47F Chinook features a new airframe, improved flight controls, advanced avionics and communications capability as well as advanced survivability measures and transportability features. The aircraft is currently in production and deliveries to the U.S. Army began in December 2006. The Italian Army fleet of Chinooks is currently used for peacekeeping, humanitarian aid, disaster relief and firefighting missions demonstrating the unique versatility and multi-mission capability of this helicopter.
