Azzurra Air Expands its Charter Activity

During the 1999 summer season, the Italian regional airline Azzurra Air, in which Air Malta has a 49% shareholding, moved their main technical base from Bergamo to Malpensa. The scheduled passenger services, performed under a soft franchising agreement with Alitalia, comprises 13 city pair connections from Turin and Milan to various European destinations.

At the moment, the Azzurra Air fleet is formed by three Avro RJ85s, four RJ70s, a single Bae 146-200 (all of them flying in the Alitalia Express colour scheme) and two brand new Boeing 737-700s, mainly used to expand the charter activity.

In the pictures: BAe 146-200 G-TBIC leased by Azzurra Air from Flightline, starting March 1999, and Boeing 737-700 EI-CRP delivered to Azzurra Air during May 1999, along with sister ship EI-CRQ.
