Azzurra Air Takes Off

Another new entrant in the Italian air transport scene: Azzurra Air, founded in 1995 with the support of Air Malta and equipped with a small fleet of 92 seater AI(R) Avro RJ85s.
It began scheduled services some months ago, connecting Bergamo/Orio al Serio to Rome/Ciampino, London/City and Zurich. Starting with the 1997 summer schedule, Turin was connected by Azzurra Air flights to Paris, Zurich and London/City, in competition or in collaboration with other airlines active on the same routes.
Azzurra Air, flight code ZS, has focused its activity around scheduled domestic and international services from Italian airports other than Milan and Rome, as well as the charter market.
Future plans include, from September 1997, the reopening of the Turin-Pescara route, discontinued after the demise of Itavia, early in the '80s.
