Da più di 20 anni, il Tucson Police Department utilizza elicotteri Bell 206B Jet Ranger per pattugliare i cieli dell’Arizona. Dopo 50.000 ore di volo senza incidenti, questa settimana il TPD ha ricevuto il suo quinto Bell 206B-3, primo di due esemplari ordinati di recente.
Il Tenente Rick Middleton, Comandante della Tucson PD Air Support Unit, attribuisce il successo del suo reparto nonsolo alle qualità degli elicotteri Bell, ma anche ai corsi di addestramento ed all’assistenza tecnica forniti dal costruttore. "Questo è il nostro quinto Bell 206B. Il Jet Ranger è versatile, efficiente ed estremamente adatto a svolgere i compiti di polizia urbana," ha affermato Middleton. "Ci porta in aria rapidamente, ci consente 60-90 minuti di volo e ci permette di intervenire rapidamente in ogni punto della città."
Secondo quanto riferisce Middleton, il TPC utilizza i Jet Ranger in situazioni operative assai varie: furti con scasso, rapine a mano armata, gravi incidenti stradali, ricerca di persone scomparse e voli di ricognizione nell’ambito di determinate indagini. “Abbiamo già effettuato 50.000 ore di volo con i nostri Bell" ha concluso Middleton. E quel numero continua ad aumentare. "Lo scorso anno abbiamo totalizzato 1.500 ore complessive. Con i due nuovi elicotteri in arrivo pensiamo che, da Dicembre, raggiungeremo le 3.300 ore di volo ogni 12 mesi. Non vediamo l’ora di trasferire questo elicottero a Tucson e cominciare ad usarlo, dal prossimo venerdì, contro i bad guys."
"Il Dipartimento di Polizia di Tucson utilizza i nostri elicotteri dal 1984, cosa di cui siamo orgogliosi" ha affermato Bill Maddox, Responsabile Esecutivo Marketing della Bell Helicopter. "Ma siamo altrettanto lieti di aver stretto solidi rapporti commerciali con diverse altre agenzie impegnate nell’homeland security."
Bell Helicopter ha avuto un ottima annata per quanto riguarda questo settore, con più di 30 elicotteri venduti a 13 diverse organizzazioni che si occupano di pubblica sicurezza, come ad esempio il Las Vegas Police Department, il Puerto Rico Police Department, il Miami-Dade Fire Department, la Drug Enforcement Administration ed il Federal Bureau of Investigation.

For more than 20 years, the Tucson Police Department has been using Bell's 206B Jet Rangers to patrol their skies. More than 50,000 accident free flight hours later, the TPD took delivery of their fifth Bell 206B-3 this week, the first delivery in an order of two helicopters.
Lieutenant Rick Middleton, Commander of the Tucson PD Air Support Unit attributes the success of his department to the quality of Bell helicopters, related training and support. "This is our fifth Bell 206B. The Jet Ranger is versatile, efficient and very effective in suiting the needs of municipal law enforcement," Middleton said. "It gets us in the air quickly, gives us 60-90 minutes of flight time and can travel at a speed to get us across the city quickly to respond to calls."
According to Middleton, the department uses the Jet Ranger to respond to burglaries, armed robberies, serious auto accidents, missing person searches as well as providing aerial photo opportunities for investigators. “We have 50,000 flight hours of Bell action," Middleton said. And that number is going to get even larger. "Last year we flew 1,500 hours. With these two new helicopters we are going to increase that to 3,300 starting in December. We are anxious to get this aircraft back to Tucson and get it in the air on Friday looking for bad guys."

Bell Helicopter has had a tremendously successful year selling more than 30 helicopters to 13 homeland security agencies all over the country including the Las Vegas Police Department, Puerto Rico Police Department, Miami-Dade Fire Department, The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation just to name a few.
