Rappresentanti Boeing ed Emirates, guidati dal presidente della compagnia H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum e dal direttore generale della Boeing Commercial Airplanes Alan Mulally, hanno festeggiato la consegna dei primi due bireattori B.777-300ER al vettore di Dubai.
Quest’anno Emirates riceverà 10 B.777-300ER, quattro dei quali noleggiati dall’ILFC (International Lease Finance Corporation) e sei dalla GECAS (General Electric Commercial Aviation Service). La compagnia mediorientale utilizza attualmente 21 B.777 e prevede di aumentarne il numero, tramite noleggi ed acquisti diretti, fino a 51 esemplari entro il 2007: In tal modo diventerebbe uno dei maggiori operatori al mondo di questo tipo d’aereo.
I B.777-300ER della Emirates sono i primi ad essere equipaggiati con l’Electronic Flight Bag della Boeing; l’unico sistema sul mercato ad essere completamente integrato ed omologato in classe 3. L’EFB rende inutile il quantitativo di carte che serva finora ai piloti per ogni volo, mettendo comodamente a disposizione tutte le informazioni in formato digitale. Emirates è il maggior cliente per i kit EFB, avendone già ordinati 30. I suoi aerei sono anche i primi dotati della tacnologia Terminal Wireless, sviluppata dalla stessa Boeing per consentire la comunicazione a due vie con le strutture aeroportuali, in banda larga, dall’atterraggio al decollo.
Emirates e Boeing hanno anche lavorato insieme per introdurre un sistema di illuminazione interna con LED, che comprende una rilassante visione di un cielo stellato sul soffitto della cabina, per invogliare i passeggeri ad assopirsi.

Boeing and Emirates officials, led by the airline's Chairman H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum and Boeing Commercial Airplanes Chief Executive Alan Mulally, on Friday celebrated delivery of the Dubai-based airline's first two B.777-300ER airplanes.
Emirates will receive 10 B.777-300ERs this year, with four coming from International Lease Finance Corp (ILFC) and six from General Electric Commercial Aviation Service (GECAS). The airline currently operates 21 B.777s and plans to increase its fleet through lease and direct purchases to 51 by late 2007, making it one of the world's largest B.777 operators.
The Emirates B.777-300ERs are the first equipped with the Boeing Electronic Flight Bag; the only fully integrated and certified Class 3 EFB in commercial service. The EFB replaces the large amount of paper crews now carry for flights, placing all required data in digital format at the pilot's fingertips. Emirates is the largest EFB customer with 30 units on order. Its airplanes are also the first commercial jets equipped with Boeing's Terminal Wireless technology, allowing a two-way broadband data connection with the airport gate from touchdown to takeoff.
Emirates and Boeing worked together on the development of an innovative LED mood-lighting system, including a tranquil "starry night sky" viewed on the cabin ceiling that helps ease passengers to sleep.
