La Boeing Company ed Emirates hanno annunciato di aver concluso le trattative per un ordine fermo di ben 42 bireattori B.777 oltre ad opzioni (purchase rights) per altri venti esemplari. L’accordo, dal valore di 9,7 miliardi di dollari, è stato annunciato dallo Sceicco Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, presidente della Emirates, al Dubai Air Show. Nel dettaglio, il vettore ha comperato 24 B.777-300ER, 10 B.777-200LR Worldliner ed 8 B.777 Freighter (versione derivata dal -200LR), con le prime consegne previste nel 2007. Tutti questi aerei saranno spinti da turbofan della famiglia General Electric GE90, in grado di soddisfare i livelli di rumorosità QC2 richiesti dagli aeroporti più sensibili al problema dell’inquinamento acustico.
Quando, a fine 2007, tutti i precedenti ordini per B.777 saranno stati evasi, Emirates avrà già in linea 51 aerei di questo tipo, ovvero una delle maggiori flotte al mondo. Con il nuovo ordine, il vettore diventerà il più grande operatore in assoluto di questo tipo di aereo. Emirates utilizzerà i nuovi B.777 per continuare ad espandere i propri collegamenti verso l’Europa e l’Asia, oltre che per sviluppare nuove rotte non-stop come quelle verso la West Coast degli Stati Uniti.
Il B.777-200LR, che di recente ha battuto il record di distanza per gli aerei di linea, trasporta 301 passeggeri su tratte fino a 9.420 miglia nautiche (17.445 chilometri). Attualmente la compagnia del Golfo serve 75 destinazioni e continua ad espandersi, compreso un aumento del 27% nel trasporto merci, attraverso la sussidiaria Sky Cargo.

The Boeing Company and Emirates today announced they have concluded contract negotiations for a firm order for 42 B.777 airplanes with purchase rights for 20 additional airplanes. The deal was announced by Emirates Chairman H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum at the Dubai Air Show and is valued at $9.7 billion at list prices. The order of the carrier is for 24 B.777-300ERs, 10 B.777-200LR Worldliners and 8 B.777 Freighters (based on the -200LR airframe), with the first airplanes scheduled for delivery in 2007. All these aircraft will be powered by General Electric's GE90 jet engine family and will meet QC2 noise standards for maximum accessibility to noise-sensitive airports.
When current orders are delivered by late 2007, Emirates fleet will include 51 B.777s, already making it one of the world's largest 777 fleets. This new order will see the airline becoming the largest operator in the world for this type of aircraft. Emirates will use the new B.777 to extend routes to key European and Asian cities, and fly new direct services towards destinations such as the U.S. West Coast.
The B.777-200LR, which recently broke the world distance record for a commercial airliner, will carry 301 passengers up to 9,420 nautical miles (17,445 kilometers). The airline currently serves over 75 destinations and continues to grow, including a 27% volume increase in cargo through its subsidiary Sky Cargo.
