Boeing e Pakistan International Airlines hanno festeggiato al Boeing Field la consegna del secondo B.777-200LR (Longer Range) della compagnia. Più avanti nel corso dell’anno, la PIA ritirerà anche il suo primo B.777-300ER, diventando la prima compagnia al mondo ad utilizzare tutti i modelli della famiglia Boeing 777.
Scott Carson, Responsabile Vendite della Boeing Commercial Airplanes ha dichiarato, “Siamo lieti di partecipare alla crescita della PIA fornendo aerei che collegheranno il Pakistan al resto del mondo e che, per la prima volta, le permetteranno di raggiungere gli Stati Uniti senza scalo.”
La PIA aveva ritirato il primo B.777-200LR a febbraio; attualmente esso è in servizio sui voli di linea nonstop tra Karachi e Toronto. Il secondo B.777-200LR della PIA è l’esemplare che il 10 novembre 2005 stabilì il nuovo record di autonomia per un aereo di linea. Atterrò a Londra/Heathrow dopo un volo di 11.664 miglia nautiche (21.601 km), durato 22 ore e 42 minuti, iniziato ad Hong Kong – in direzione est – nella serata del 9 novembre. In quell’occasione, la distanza coperta dall’aereo superò la metà del diametro del pianeta.
Attualmente, in tutto il mondo, 46 compagnie aeree utilizzano – in proprietà od a noleggio – più di 540 B.777. Ad oggi la Boeing ne ha venduti 827 esemplari, nelle varie versioni, e detiene un portafoglio ordini di 279 esemplari, per un valore di 64 miliardi di dollari ai prezzi attuali.

Boeing and Pakistan International Airlines celebrated the delivery of the carrier’s second B.777-200LR (Longer Range) yesterday at Boeing Field. Later this year, PIA will take delivery of its first B.777-300ER, making it the first airline in the world to operate the entire Boeing 777 family.
Scott Carson, Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice president of sales, said, “We are very proud to be a part of PIA’s future as it operates a family of airplanes that will link Pakistan to the rest of the world and that will provide the first direct links between the United States and Pakistan.”
PIA took delivery of the first B.777-200LR to enter commercial service in February. The plane is now flying regular nonstop service from Karachi to Toronto. PIA’s second B.777-200LR is the airplane that broke the distance record for a commercial jetliner. On Nov. 10, 2005, the airplane landed at London/Heathrow after flying 11,664 nautical miles (21,601 kilometers) during a 22-hour, 42-minute flight that left Hong Kong flying eastbound the evening of Nov. 9. The flight was greater than the distance of a trip halfway around the world.
Around the world, 46 airlines own or operate more than 540 B.777s currently in service. To date, Boeing has sold 827 of the popular twin-engine B.777 jetliner. Boeing holds a backlog of 279 airplanes of this tipe, worth about $64 billion at current list prices.
