C-27J Debuts on the Casale Monferrato Grass Runway

Alenia Aermacchi and Casale Monferrato’s Aero Club “Natale Palli” have recently signed an agreement to establish C-27J desultory operational training activities and demonstration to perspective customers by using the 1100 m grass runway of the “Francesco Cappa” airport, in the Piemonte Region, Italy.
On July 18, 2012, the C-27J “demo aircraft” landed for the first time at Casale Monferrato airport. An impressive flight display was also offered to attending local authorities and press representatives.
The C-27J has already operated on gravel, sand and grass landing strips in Europe, Asia, Middle East and in the Americas both at sea level and at high altitude and in all weather conditions. In Italy it has operated at Venaria Reale and Viterbo grass runways. The Casale Monferrato aiport is at a convenient distance from Turin/Caselle airport and, in comparison with Venaria Reale, has less air traffic restrictions.
Besides the activities of the Aero Club Natale Palli, the Casale Monferrato “Francesco Cappa” airport (LILM) is the seat of the Area Delta 47 parachute school, NH&MM air work and maintenance company and Eli Express helicopter operator. “Nostalgia” flights are offered with “Soviet era” Yak-52 trainer. These entities are actively engaged to find financial resources to asphalt the runway and the taxiways.
