Hellenic Air Force First C-27J Unveiled

The first LMATTS C-27J Spartan II tactical transport destined to the Hellenic Air Force was put in public display for the first time at the yearly Alenia Aeronautica Open Day, at their Turin/Caselle plants, on November 14, 2004. This aircraft has already undergone ground engine runs and is scheduled for the first flight before the year end, with delivery in early 2005.
The new Spartan II, derived from the G 222, was jointly developed by Alenia (Italy) and Lockheed Martin (USA). Hellenic Air Force placed an order for twelve C-27J aircraft in 2003. The second and the third aircraft for the HAF are awaiting engine installation on the final assembly line.
During the successful event, which attracted about 10,000 workers and their relatives, an EF 2000 series single-seater and a Tornado MLU for the Italian Air Force and a demo C-27J made a series of short but impressive display flights.
