The new Festival del Volo organized at Castiglione del Lago airport

The Festival of Flight at the Eleuteri airport at Castiglione del Lago (Perugia) took place between April 28th and May 4th 2025. It was a multi-faceted event which concluded on 2-4 May with a showcase of general and ultralight aviation, amateur built aircraft and historical aircraft.
Variable weather conditions reduced the number of aircraft on display but the participation of the public was enough to admire a number of flight demonstrations. Particularly impressive was the rescue exhibition by an AW 139 special colours helicopter of Guardia di Finanza (Customs and Excise).
On Saturday May 3, the embryo of the "Museo del Volo al Trasimeno" was inaugurated with the unveiling of the CVV-6 Canguro sailplane presented by the San Pelagio collection. Its restoration programme has been almost completed by a group of local enthusiasts and volunteers. The Canguro was series produced in the 'Fifties by SAI Ambrosini in their plant located at nearby Passignano sul Trasimeno. It is the second CVV-6 in static display after the item preserved at Volandia (Varese). Homebuilt manufacturers were present with their stands as well as aviation associations such as the Historical Aircraft Group and Club Aviazione Popolare. The latter organization put some interesting homebuil aircraft on display including Luigi Aldini's FIAT G.46.
Until 2019 the Eleuteri airport had hosted the yearly Spring Meeting, a popular air show which was interrupted by the COVID pandemic. The smaller Festival del Volo 2025 "Number 0" appears to be a promising restart with a view to the next editions.
