La Federal Aviation Administration ha rilasciato alla Cessna Aircraft Company la piena certificazione del tipo per il jet executive Model 525B Citation CJ3. Sabato 9 ottobre 2004, il nuovo membro della famiglia Citation ha completato le 150 ore di prove di funzionamento ed affidabilità previste.
"E' stato un 2004 veramente eccezionale per la Cessna. Il CJ3 è il terzo tipo di Citation ad aver ricevuto, durante l'anno, la firma di approvazione della FAA," ha dichiatato il presidente e CEO della ditta Jack J. Pelton. "Dalla fase di sviluppo fino ai voli di certificazione FAA, il Citation CJ3 ha ripetutamente superato od eguagliato le specifiche di prestazione previste a progetto. I risultati delle prove in volo del CJ3 ci hanno pienamente soddisfatti, e siamo convinti che questo aereo sorprenderà i nostri clienti. Tutti quelli che alla Cessna hanno contribuito a far nascere questo velivolo devono essere orgogliosi del loro lavoro."
La Cessna prevede di consegnare il primo Citation CJ3 fra poche settimane. I clienti che utilizzeranno il CJ3 troveranno ulteriori miglioramenti rispetto alle già ottime caratteristiche del Citation CJ2, oltre ad una fusoliera più lunga, nuovi motori Williams International FJ44-3A ed un aggiornatissimo sistema avionico Collins completamente integrato.
Il CJ3 è certificato per volare, con un solo pilota, ad una velocità massima di crociera di 417 nodi (772 km/h) a 33.000 piedi (10.000 m). Con due piloti, il pieno di carburante e quattro passeggeri con bagagli, il CJ3 ha un raggio d'azione di 1.800 miglia nautiche (oltre 3.300 km), con riserve d'emergenza in volo IFR (NBAA). La quota operativa raggiunge i 45.000 piedi (13.700 m) ed il peso massimo al decollo è di 13.870 libbre (6.291 kg).
La certificazione del CJ3 arriva due anni dopo l'annuncio del relativo programma, che avvenne alla Convention NBAA del 2002. Il 17 aprile del 2003, l'aereo è entrato nella storia della Cessna effettuando il primo ed il secondo volo nell'arco della stessa giornata. La Cessna ha già ricevuto più di 100 ordini fermi per il Citation CJ3.

The Federal Aviation Administration has granted Cessna Aircraft Company full type certification for the Model 525B Citation CJ3 business jet. The newly certified Citation completed 150 hours of function and reliability testing on Saturday, October 9, 2004.
"This has been a remarkable year for Cessna. The CJ3 marks the third Citation to receive the FAA's signature of approval in 2004," said Jack J. Pelton manufacturer's President and CEO. "From the development of the concept through FAA test flights, the Citation CJ3 has repeatedly surpassed or equaled performance specifications we originally announced. The results of the CJ3 flight tests have impressed everyone at Cessna, and we know this airplane will amaze customers. Everyone at Cessna who helped turn this airplane into reality should be enormously proud of this great aircraft."
Cessna plans to deliver the first Citation CJ3 later this year. Customers taking delivery of the CJ3 will have improvements to the already successful Citation CJ features plus a longer cabin; new Williams International FJ44-3A engines; and advanced fully integrated Collins avionics system.
The CJ3 is certified for single pilot operation and has a maximum cruise speed of 417 knots at 33,000 feet. With two pilots, full fuel, four passengers and baggage, the CJ3 offers over 1,800 nm of range with NBAA IFR reserves. Service ceiling is 45,000 feet and the maximum gross takeoff weight is 13,870 lbs.
The CJ3's certification comes two years after the program was announced at the 2002 NBAA Convention. The airplane made Cessna history on April 17, 2003, when it took its first and second flight on the same day. Cessna has received over 100 non-refundable orders for the Citation CJ3.
