La Cessna Aircraft Company ha annunciato che il Citation M2 (Mustang 2) ha iniziato la fase di montaggio presso il suo stabilimento di Independence, nel Kansas (USA). La sezione anteriore e posteriore della fusoliera del nuovo “light business jet” sono costruite presso lo stabilimento di Wichita, sempre in Kansas, e sono trasferite ad Independence per l’assemblaggio finale, i collaudi e la consegna.
L’esemplare “Unit 800”, destinato a svolgere il compito di dimostratore, uscirà dalla catena di montaggio il prossimo aprile. L’attesissimo aereo, evoluzione del Mustang, dovrebbe essere certificato già entro il 2013.
Il Citation M2 è equipaggiato con la strumentazione Garmin G3000, offrendo comunanza con modelli superiori della gamma Citation come il Sovereign ed il Citation X. L’M2 ha un volume interno sufficiente per sei passeggeri e per un piccolo bagno, elementi non presenti nell’attuale Mustang. La Cessna afferma che l’aereo sarà più veloce ed avrà una maggiore velocità di salita rispetto a diversi aerei concorrenti della stessa categoria.
La Cessna sta rinnovando con decisione la propria gamma di prodotti. Nel 2013 saranno introdotti sul mercato il nuovo Citation X, il più veloce aereo civile del mondo a Mach .935, il rinnovato Citation Sovereign, il Turbo Skylane JT-A alimentato con carburante Jet-A, il nuovo modello TTx del Corvalis, ed infine il Grand Caravan EX.
I quasi 500 dipendenti a tempo pieno negli oltre 45.000 m2 dello stabilimento Cessna di Independence assemblano, verniciano ed installano gli interni della maggior parte dei monomotori a pistoni del produttore USA, compresi i modelli 172 Skyhawk, 182 Skylane e 206 Stationair. Inaugurato nel luglio 1996, il sito di Independence costruisce anche il Citation Mustang e, nel 2012, ha festeggiato il 10.000° aereo consegnato.

Cessna Aircraft Company announced that the Citation M2 (Mustang 2) has commenced its initial production run in the company's Independence, Kansas facility. The front and aft cabin assemblies for the light business jet are built at Cessna's Wichita, Kansas facility and are then transported to Independence for final assembly, flight test and delivery.
Unit 800 is slated for demonstrator purposes, and is expected to roll off the assembly line this April. The much-anticipated aircraft, an evolution of the Mustang, is on track for certification in the second quarter of 2013.
The M2 features the Garmin G3000 avionics suite, offering design commonalities with the larger jets in the Citation family such as the Citation Sovereign and Citation X. The M2 has space for six passengers and a private lavatory, features not present in the current Mustang. Cessna affirms it is also faster than many comparable airplanes and has a faster climb rate.
Other Cessna aircraft expected to hit the market in 2013 include the new Citation X, the world's fastest civil aircraft at Mach .935, the renewed Citation Sovereign, the Jet-A fueled Turbo Skylane JT-A, the TTx updated Corvalis, and the Grand Caravan EX.
The nearly 500 full time Cessna employees at the 500,000 square foot Cessna Independence facility are trained to assemble, paint, and install interiors on the majority of Cessna single engine piston models including the 172 Skyhawk, the 182 Skylane and the 206 Stationair. Opened in July of 1996, the Independence facility also manufactures the Citation Mustang and celebrated its 10,000th aircraft delivery during 2012.
