Il Portogallo ha deciso di acquistare dodici esemplari dell'elicottero AgustaWestland EH 101; essi saranno utilizzati per missioni di ricerca e soccorso (SAR e Combat SAR) e protezione della pesca. L'ordine, che ammonta a 320 milioni di Euro, segue di poco quello siglato dalla Danimarca.
La scelta dell'EH 101 giunge al termine di un'approfondita valutazione dell'elicottero, ed è il risultato di una durissima competizione contro il Sikorksy S-92 e l'Eurocopter Cougar MK2+. L'attività di valutazione condotta dalla commissione portoghese ha dimostrato la capacità dell'EH101 di eseguire le più complesse missioni di ricerca e soccorso, oltre a quelle di più ampio impiego navale e di trasporto a lungo raggio.
Nell'ambito dell'accordo, AgustaWestland ha siglato una serie di partnership con varie aziende portoghesi, non solo del setore aerospaziale, per soddisfare i requisiti del Governo portoghese in termini di compensazioni industriali.
Amedeo Caporaletti, amministratore delegato di AgustaWestland, in occasione di quest'ultimo successo ha dichiarato: "La scelta dell'EH 101 da parte del Portogallo, che segue di poco quella della Danimarca, conferma ancora una volta la validità della strategia aziendale, basata su di una gamma di prodotti ad avanzata tecnologia ed in grado di rispondere alle più esigenti richieste del mercato mondiale".
Richard Case, direttore generale di AgustaWestland, ha aggiunto: "Questo ulteriore successo conferma l'EH101 come l'elicottero di riferimento in termini di prestazioni, non solo in Europa ma anche nel mondo".

The Portuguese Government has formally awarded the decision to procure 12 EH 101's for Search and Rescue, Combat SAR role and fishery protection to AgustaWestland. The order is valued at 320 million Euro and follows the recent announcement by Denmark of its decision to purchase 14 EH 101's for SAR and Utility roles.
The selection of the EH101 comes at the end of a thorough and extensive evaluation and as a result of flight evaluation of the EH101 against the Sikorsky S-92 and the Eurocopter Cougar Mk2+. The comprehensive range of tests carried out by the Portuguese Evaluation Committee demonstrated the unrivalled capability of the EH 101, and its ability to carry out the most demanding of SAR requirements.
As part of the contract AgustaWestland has built a series of partnerships with Portuguese Industry, in both aerospace and non-aerospace fields to satisfy Portuguese Government Industrial compensation and collaboration requirements.
On the additional success of the EH 101, Amedeo Caporaletti, CEO of AgustaWestland commented: "The selection of Portugal, which closely follows the announcement from Denmark, confirms the validity of our company strategy, founded on a product range of advanced technology, demonstrating that it is capable of satisfying the most demanding requirements of world market".
