Euro Mediterranean Airlines, Italian-Egyptian Start-Up

On April 21, 2007, Euro Mediterranean Airlines started its operational activity. This new Egyptian charter airline is a joint-venture between Air Italy (75%) and an Egyptian tour operator (25%). The parent Italian charter airline, established in 2005, carried some 500.000 passengers in 2006.
The initial fleet of Euro Mediterranean is formed by a single leased Boeing B.757-200, in 220-seat economy class configuration. The aircraft is flown by mixed crews, formed by Italian and Egyptian pilots. The range of the aircraft used by Euro Mediterranean allows non-stop flights from Egypt to Central and North European destinations. The first flight, from Luxor to Paris/CDG, via Cairo, occurred on April 21, 2007, on behalf of Air Master, a French tour operator. Some days later, direct flights started from Bologna and Malpensa (Italy) to Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt), on behalf of Teorema, an Italian tour operator.
