Epiphany 2019 at the Italian Army Aviation Base of Venaria

For the fifth consecutive year, the "Family Day" for the relatives of the personnel of 34° Gruppo Squadroni AVES Toro was repeated. This aviation unit of the Italian Army is based at Venaria airfield not far from Turin. The main event of the day was again the arrival of a figure, known as the "Befana" (a linguistic distortion of "Epiphany") portrayed as a witch-like figure parodying the Three Wise Men who brings sweets to good children and coal to the naughty ones. The nose of an Agusta/Bell AB 205A-1 previously used in sanitary configuration has been painted by Warrant Officer Vanzan with Spider Man, a bull and the Mole Antonelliana, the Turin's towering monument where the "Museum of Cinema" is hosted. The composition has been titled "34° l'Unico Universo". Public administration representatives and voluntary associations took part in the event, underlining the liaisons between the surrounding territory and the 34° Gruppo Squadroni Toro. In 2001 the name of the unit has been modified as 34° Distaccamento Permanente AVES Toro.
