Koala Certification Before the End of 1998
Certification of A 119 Koala, the lightweight version of A 109 helicopter, will be granted during the last part of the year, with first deliveries following in 1999.
The first Koala prototype (I-KOAL) was flown at the beginning of 1995, powered by a single Turbomeca Arriel I turboshaft. Some months later a second prototype joined the flight-test programme, equipped by a more powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6B-37, the turboshaft chosen for the series production. Koala has a cabin suited for seven passengers.
