Nord Aviation N.2501 Noratlas 9XR-KD della Wolf Air Transport (Wolfair) di base a Kigali, capitale del Ruanda, in sosta all’aeroporto di Torino/Caselle nel dicembre 1973. Il prototipo dell’aereo da trasporto militare francese Nord N.2500 Noratlas, nella versione originale con motori radiali Gnôme-Rhône 14R da 1.600 HP, volò il 10 settembre 1949. A questo primo modello seguì, nel 1952, il N.2501 dotato di motori Bristol Hercules 758 da 2.040 HP, costruiti su licenza dalla SNECMA. Il Noratlas entrò in linea con le forze aeree francesi (140), tedesche (137), ed israeliane (3), oltre che con qualche operatore civile. I primi 25 Noratlas della Luftwaffe furono prodotti in Francia ed i restanti in Germania, su licenza, dalla Flugzeugbau Nord GmbH. L’esemplare della foto, numero di costruzione D073, dopo essere stato utilizzato dalla Luftwaffe (codice 50+78), operò nel mercato civile prima in Germania, come D-ACUV dell’Elbeflug, poi negli Stati Uniti (N65171) ed infine in Africa. Nord Aviation N.2501 Noratlas 9XR-KD of Wolf Air Transport (Wolfair) based at Kigali, capital of Rwanda, parked at Turin/Caselle airport in December, 1973. The prototype of the French military transport aircraft Nord N.2500, the initial version powered by two 1,600 HP Gnôme-Rhône 14R radial engines, flew for the first time on September 10, 1949. In 1952, the improved model N.2501 made its maiden flight, being powered by 2,040 HP Bristol Hercules 758 engines, manufactured under licence by SNECMA. The Noratlas was ordered by the Air Forces of France (140), West Germany (137) and Israel (3), and by some civil operators. The initial twenty-five Noratlas aircraft for the Luftwaffe were manufactured in France and the remainder were built in Germany, under licence, by Flugzeugbau Nord GmbH. The aircraft of the photo, construction number D073, after its service with the Luftwaffe (code 50+78), went to civil operators in Germany (D-ACUV, Elbeflug), the U.S.A (N65171) and than in Africa.
