General Avia F.20TP Condor I-GEAC in mostra statica all’aeroporto di Vergiate (LILG), il 2 luglio 1983. Quel giorno fu organizzata una manifestazione aerea il giorno prima della partenza di una pattuglia di nove SIAI Marchetti SF.260C per gli Stati Uniti, in occasione del 50° anniversario della “Trasvolata Atlantica” di Italo Balbo. L’unico esemplare del Condor, progettato da Stelio Frati, fu costruito dalla General Avia a Piotello e collaudato dalla SIAI Marchetti a Vergiate. Il pilota collaudatore Alessandro Ghisleni portò in volo il Condor, per la prima volta, il 7 maggio 1983. Sviluppato dal precedente F.20 Pegaso a pistoni, l’F-20TP Condor è un bimotore metallico ad ala bassa, quadriposto con capottina a goccia e propulso da due turboeliche Allison 250-B17B da 400 shp. L’elegantissimo e prestante aeroplano era destinato al mercato dell’addestramento avanzato civile, ma il programma rimase allo stato prototipico. (Aeromedia)
The General Avia F.20TP Condor I-GEAC seen in static display at Vergiate airport (LILG), on July 2nd 1983. That day, as part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations for Italo Balbo’s famous “Transatlantic Flight”, an air show was held at Vergiate, and the following day a commemorative formation of nine SIAI Marchetti SF.260C aircraft took off for the United States. The one and only example of the Stelio Frati designed Condor was built by General Avia at their Piotello factory, near Milan, and tested by SIAI Marchetti at Vergiate. Its maiden flight, in the hands of test pilot Alessandro Ghisleni, took place on May 7, 1983. A low-wing, all-metal, four seater aircraft with a bubble canopy, the F.20TP Condor, powered by two 400 shp Allison 250-B17B turboprops, was derived from the piston-engined F.20 Pegaso. The elegant, high-performance Condor was destined for the civil advanced training market, but the programme never got past the prototype stage. (Aeromedia)
