Lo stemma ufficiale del No. 38 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force. Il reparto fu fondato a Richmond (Nuovo Galles del Sud) il 15 settembre 1943, iniziando ad operare con alcuni Lockheed Hudson per trasporto merci, passeggeri e VIP, all’interno dei confini australiani. Lo “squadron” iniziò a mettere in linea i primi Douglas Dakota nel maggio 1944, ampliando il raggio delle proprie attività all’area dell’Oceano Pacifico sud-occidentale, alla Nuova Guinea, al Borneo e fino all’Oceano Indiano orientale. Nel1964, su il primo “squadron” della RAAF a riequipaggiarsi con il nuovo bimotore a pistoni Caribou. Nel 2000, il No. 38 Squadron rimase l’ultimo reparto delle RAAF ad utilizzare il Caribou. Nel 2009, gli ultimi Caribou efficienti furono ritirati dal servizio ed il No. 38 Squadron fu riequipaggiato con alcuni biturbina da collegamento Beechcraft King Air 350. (collezione Aeromedia)
The official badge of N° 38 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force. The unit was established on 15 September 1943 at Richmond (New South Wales), flying Lockheed Hudsons for general freight, passenger and VIP duties within Australia. The squadron received its first Douglas Dakotas in May 1944, extending its range of operations to the South West Pacific Area, as well as to New Guinea, Borneo and later to the East Indian Ocean Theatre of Operations. In 1964, it was the first RAAF squadron to be re-equipped with the new Caribou piston-engined tactical transport aircraft. From 2000, No. 38 Squadron the was the last RAAF unit to operate the Caribou. In 2009, the few serviceable Caribous were at last phased out and No. 38 Squadron was re-equipped with a number of Beechcraft King Air 350 twin-turboprop liaison aircraft. (Aeromedia collection)
