Il primo di due esemplari del tiltrotor sperimentale Bell Model 301 (designazione U.S. Army XV-15) in rullaggio al Salone di Parigi 1981, nell'ambito dell'unica presentazione del velivolo fuori dagli USA. Il programma di ricerca, iniziato nel luglio 1973, fu finanziato e condotto congiuntamente dalla NASA e dall'U.S. Army. Nell'ultima fase, esso comprese lo sviluppo di alcune tecnologie poi adottate dal V-22 Osprey. Il primo XV-15, marche civili N702NA, volò per la prima volta il 3 maggio 1977. La prima transizione in volo orizzontale fu effettuata, il 24 luglio 1979, dal secondo esemplare N703NA. L'XV-15 era propulso da due turboalberi Avco Lycoming LTC14K-4K da 1.156 kW (1,550 shp). Diametro di ciascun rotore 7,62 m (25 ft 0 in); apertura alare comprese le gondole 10,72 m (35 ft 2 in); lunghezza totale 12,83 m (42 ft 1 in); peso massimo al decollo (corto) 6.804 kg (15,000 lb); velocità massima livellata 332 nodi (561 km/h). The first of two Bell Model 301 tiltrotor research aircraft (U.S. Army designation XV-15) at the 1981 edition of the Paris Air Show: This was the only public exibition of the XV-15 outside the USA. The research programme, started in July 1973, was jointly financed and managed by the NASA and the U.S. Army; in its final phase, the test activity comprised the development of technologies aimed to V-22 Osprey. The first XV-15, N702NA civil marks, flew for the first time on May 3,1977. The first full in-flight conversion to aeroplane mode was performed by the second aircraft, N703NA, on July 24, 1979. XV-15 was powered by two Avco Lycoming LTC14K-4K delivering 1,156 kW (1,550 shp).
