Northrop YT-38A Talon 58-1192, the second Talon prototype, preserved at the South Dakota Air and Space Museum at Ellsworth AFB, near Rapid City in South Dakota. Two Northrop model N-156T prototype aircraft were built, powered by two 1,900 lbst General Electric YJ85-GE-1 turbojets. The first one - 58-1191 - flew for the first time on April 10, 1959, followed by 4 pre-production and 1,139 T-38A series production aircraft. The assembly line was closed in 1972. Tandem two-seat supersonic advanced jet trainer, the Talon is powered by two General Electric J85-GE-5 turbojets with afterburner, each delivering 2,500 lb (1,135 kg) of dry static thrust and 3,850 lb (1,748 kg) with afterburning. Wing span 7.70 m (25 ft 3 in), length overall 14.1 m. (46 ft 4 in), height overall 3.91 m (12 ft 10 in). Maximum speed with afterburning Mach 1.27 at 35,000 ft (10,670 m), cruising speed Mach 0.89 or 590 mph (950 km/h) and maximum range 1,093 miles (1,759 km). (Aeromedia)
