Motoaliante Eiriavion PIK-20E N803NA della NASA. Il velivolo, che porta il numero NASA 803, fu utilizzato tra il 1981 ed il 1991 dall'Ames-Dryden Flight Research Facility della NASA (ora Dryden Flight Research Center) ad Edwards (California) come piattaforma sperimentale per prove di sostentamento a bassa velocità. Successivamente la NASA utilizzò il PIK-20E per studiare il flusso dei fluidi sulle superfici del mezzo, a varie velocità e con diversi angoli di attacco, allo scopo di verificare l'efficienza complessiva delle superfici mobili. Il monoposto della Eiriavion è stato anche usato per sviluppare procedure per registrare le caratteristiche di planata degli alianti, e per studiare la portanza ed il flusso laminare su una sezione alare particolarmente efficiente. Eiriavion PIK-20E N803NA powered glider flown by NASA. The vehicle, bearing NASA tail number 803, was used at NASA's Ames-Dryden Flight Research Facility (now Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, California), between 1981 and 1991, as a research vehicle on projects calling for high lift-over-drag and low-speed performance. Later NASA used the PIK-20E to study the flow of fluids over the aircraft's surface at various speeds and angles of attack as part of a study of airflow efficiency over lifting surfaces. The single-seat aircraft was also used to begin developing procedures for collecting sailplane glide performance data in a program carried out by Ames-Dryden. It was also used to study high-lift aerodynamics and laminar flow on high-lift airfoils. (Aeromedia)
