Northrop Grumman E-2C Hawkeye 165293 dell'U.S. Navy. (Aeromedia)
Northrop Grumman E-2C Hawkeye 165293 of the U.S. Navy. The first flight of the Grumman W2F-1 prototype, the ancestor of all the Hawkeyes, occurred on April 19, 1961. The aircraft was designed to replace the U.S. Navy's piston engined Grumman Trackers, as a carrier-borne and land-based airborne early-warning/command and control platform. Successive production models included the E-2A and the E-2B. On January 20, 1971 the first prototype of the enhanced E-2C made its maiden flight. A total of 186 E-2C series aircraft were built, including 139 items for the U.S. Navy. Export Hawkeyes went to Taiwan, Egypt, Israel, Japan and the Republic of Singapore. The Northrop Grumman E-2C is powered by two Allison T56-A-427 turboprops each rated at 3,803 ekW (5,100 eshp). Wing span 24.56 m (80 ft 7 in); width with folded wings 8.94 m (29 ft 4 in); length overall 17.6 m (57 ft 8.75 in); height 5.58 m (18 ft 3.75 in); radome diameter 7.32 m (24 ft). Maximum take-off weight 24,687 kg (54,426 lb) and normal cruise speed 259 knots (480 km/h or 298 mph). (Aeromedia)
