Northrop Grumman C-2A Greyhound 162157 dell'U.S. Navy in atterraggio alla NAS Key West, Florida. Il Greyhound svolge la funzione di Carrier On-board Delivery (COD) per la Marina degli Stati Uniti. Concepito per rimpiazzare il Grumman Trader a pistoni, il C-2A fu sviluppato utilizzando la stessa ala ripiegabile, i carrelli e gli impennaggi dell'E-2A Hawkeye. La fusoliera è invece più grande e può ospitare 39 passeggeri oppure merci e motori di ricambio per velivoli. Il prototipo effettuò il primo volo il 18 novembre 1964. Dopo tre C-2A di preserie (uno dei quali per prove strutturali a terra), venne realizzata una prima serie di 19 Greyhound. Nel 1982 la Grumman ricevette un secondo ordine dall'U.S. Navy per altri 39 esemplari. Il Northrop Grumman C-2A è spinto da due turboeliche Allison T56-A-427A da 3.661 ekW (4.910 eshp). Apertura alare 24,56 m; larghezza con le semiali ripiegate 8,94 m; lunghezza 17,32 m; altezza 4,83 m. 6.804 kg di carico utile massimo per operazioni su piste a terra; velocità massima di crociera 260 nodi (482 km/h); raggio d'azione massimo superiore alle 1.040 miglia nautiche (1,930 km) con 4.536 kg di carico massimo per le operazioni navali. Northrop Grumman C-2A Greyhound 162157 of the U.S. Navy lands at NAS Key West, Florida. The Greyhound is the Carrier On-board Delivery (COD) transport aircraft of the U.S. Navy. Aimed to replace the piston engined Grumman Trader, the C-2A was developed using foldable wing, main landing gear and tail units of the E-2A Hawkeye. The larger cabin is able to carry up to 39 passengers or cargo, including spare aircraft engines. The prototype made its maiden flight on November 18, 1964. After three C-2A pre-production airframes (one for static testing), an initial production batch of 19 Greyhounds was manufactured. In 1982 Grumman received from the U.S. Navy a further order for 39 aircraft. The Northrop Grumman C-2A is powered by two Allison T56-A-427A turboprops each rated at 3,661 ekW (4,910 eshp). Wing span 24.56 m (80 ft 7 in); width with folded wings 8.94 m (29 ft 4 in); length overall 17.32 m (56 ft 10 in); height 4.83 m (15 ft 10.25 in). Maximum payload for land operations 6,804 kg (15,000 lb); maximum cruise speed 260 knots (482 km/h or 299 mph); maximum range over 1,040 nautical miles (1,930 km or 1,200 miles) with the maximum payload for carrier operation of 4,536 kg (10,000 lb).
