Il Ministero della Difesa Britannico ha scelto oggi AgustaWestland, società di Finmeccanica, per sviluppare il programma Future Lynx che prevede la realizzazione di un nuovo tipo di elicottero militare per impieghi terrestri e navali. L’accordo prevede la firma, entro l’anno, di un contratto del valore complessivo di oltre 1 miliardo di sterline (1,5 miliardi di euro circa). Il Ministero della Difesa Britannico ed AgustaWestland hanno concordato inoltre di valutare un programma per garantire l’efficienza ed il supporto tecnico degli elicotteri Westland/Sikorsky Sea King attualmente in servizio. Nell’arco dei prossimi 10 anni, il Regno Unito intende investire 3 miliardi di sterline per le componenti elicotteristiche delle proprie Forze Armate.

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, welcomes the UK Ministry of Defence’s announcement to proceed with the Future Lynx programme as its preferred option for meeting the Land (Find) and Maritime (Surface) Attack elements of its helicopter requirement. The estimated value of this programme, to be signed within the current year, is in the region of £1 billion. The UK MoD have also agreed to explore a long-term arrangement whereby AgustaWestland would partner with them to provide efficiencies in and support for its current Westland/Sikorsky Sea King fleet. The UK government has indicated its intention to invest £3 billion in its military rotorcraft requirements over the next 10 years.
