L'elicottero Agusta A 109 LOH (Light Observation Helicopter), una versione del ben noto A 109 LUH prodotto da AgustaWestland (Finmeccanica-GKN), è stato scelto anche dalla Malesia. Il valore del contratto per 11 elicotteri, supporto logistico iniziale ed addestramento, ammonta ad oltre 70 milioni di dollari. L'ordine da parte della Malesia segue quelli della Repubblica del Sud Africa per 30 elicotteri, e della Svezia per 20. Gli elicotteri saranno utilizzati dall'Aviazione dell'Esercito Malese per missioni di ricognizione, trasporto e SAR (Search And Rescue).
La collaborazione di AgustaWestland con le Forze Armate malesi risale ad oltre 20 anni orsono quando vennero acquistati alcuni Westland Wasp e due Agusta AS-61N1 Silver per il sultanato di Yohore, facente parte della Confederazione della Malesia. In tempi più recenti la Marina Malese ha acquisito sei elicotteri Super Lynx 300 per impieghi navali, mentre i Vigili del Fuoco malesi hanno ordinato, all'inizio di quest'anno, due elicotteri A 109E Power per la lotta agli incendi ed il soccorso. AgustaWestland ha inoltre stipulato numerosi accordi con l'industria aerospaziale malese che vanno dal trasferimento di know-how allo sviluppo di attività e servizi di supporto agli elicotteri AgustaWestland presenti nel paese asiatico.

The Agusta A 109 LOH (Light Observation Helicopter), a version of the renowned A 109 LUH produced by AgustaWestland (Finmeccanica-GKN), has been chosen by Malaysia. The 70 million USD contract comprises the purchase of 11 aircraft, logistic support and training. The order from Malaysia follows those made by the Republic of South Africa (30 helicopters) and Sweden (20). The new helicopters will be used by the Malaysian Army Aviation for reconnaisance, transport and SAR (Search And Rescue) missions.
The collaboration between the Armed Forces of Malaysia and the two companies now forming AgustaWestland began more than twenty years ago with the purchase of some Westland Wasps and two Agusta AS-61N1 Silvers by the sultanate of Yohore, a part of the Malaysia Confederation. More recently the Malaysian Navy bought six Super Lynx 300 naval helicopters and, at the beginning of 2003, the Malaysian Fire Corps ordered two A 109E Powers for fire-fighting and rescue duties. AgustaWestland have also signed a number of agreements with the local aerospace industry to transfer the know-how to set up in-service support services for AgustaWestland products operated in Malaysia.
