Malpensa 2000 knocks out Vergiate Air Show '99

Severe air traffic limitations to the Vergiate airfield, due to the increased activity of the nearby Malpensa airport, forced the local Flying Club to cancel the 1999 edition of their biannual air show.
Once the main production site of Siai Marchetti, Vergiate hosted its first MAV (Manifestazione Aerea Vergiate) in 1957. At the beginning, it was just another highly spectacular meeting but MAV progressively reached the status of main domestic (non-commercial) showcase for the Italian aviation industry, from ultra-light to airliners.
From October 1998, the Malpensa CTR was expanded, with consequent severe restrictions to the general aviation flights and intensive training activity at Vergiate.
